Ford recalling 2 million F-150 trucks

640 × 480
Ford has just issued a recall affecting around two million Ford F-150 trucks due to a potential fire risk on seatbelt pretensioners. Trucks manufactured between 2015 and 2018, both Regular Cab and SuperCrew Cab versions of the truck are included.

The recall includes 2015 to 2018 Ford F-150 trucks both Regular Cab and SuperCrewCab built between March 12, 2014 and August 23, 2018 at the Dearborn plant. It also includes trucks manufactured between August 20, 2014 and August 23, 2018 at the Kansas City plant. There are around 1,995,776 North American trucks affected by the recall with 339,884 of those in Canada.

Fire risk
The recall follows an investigation into truck fires in the US where Ford found seatbelt pretensioners can generate too much heat when used. This heat could theoretically generate sparks which could ignite insulation and carpeting. So far five fires have been attributed to this issue. No injuries have been reported though.

The recall will remove the insulation from within the B-pillar and apply heat resistant tape to prevent ignition. Ford will be modifying the rear panel in Regular Cab trucks too.

2018 Ford F-150
The 2018 Ford F-150 is still my favourite truck on the market until the Ranger Raptor arrives. It’s good looking, powerful, capable and can be configured to be very luxurious. All things the modern truck needs to be if it is to compete, let alone dominate the domestic truck market.

Even though the aluminium body didn’t initially go down well, Ford has proven that it is worth it. The truck is lighter and costs no more to repair than steel bodies and looks great in this current design. The truck looks the business while not looking too masculine and balances the design well. Before the introduction people were sceptical. Now they have had a chance to use the truck for a while, they are converts.

The range of engines has everything covered with frugal engines, a smooth transmission and very capable EcoBoost motors. With impressive hauling and towing capacities and the new Pro Trailer Backup Assist system, it’s no wonder it’s such a hit!
