Ford Ranger Hybrid on the way

Ford Ranger Hybrid on the way

There were whispers of an electrified Ranger back when it was being prepared for launch. A sort of hushed hint that we might see the new small Ford truck arrive later with some kind of hybrid or electric motor combination. It seems those whispers were true.

A Ford spokesperson in Europe seemed to confirm that a future Ranger would be electrified. They said something like ‘Ford is pushing to make its entire commercial range zero-emission capable’. As the Ranger technically falls into commercial, that means it too is going to become zero-emission capable.

We don’t know when and we don’t know how but we know it’s happening.

Ford electric

Don’t forget, Ford committed to electrifying all its vehicle fleet in Europe by 2026. As the Ranger is popular over there, it will be included in that change.

Ford North America has remained tight lipped about an electrified Ranger but as the truck will be available in other regions as a hybrid, it wouldn’t take too much to at least have it as an option here.

We will just have to wait and see what happens.

2021 Ford Ranger

The Ford Ranger quickly found a place in our heart courtesy of being smaller than the F-150, easier to drive around town and no less practical. Someone once said it’s like a Swiss Army knife, capable of just about everything.

That sums this truck up.

It’s good looking and not imposing. Modestly sized yet can carry and haul. It’s comfortable and has decent engines and offers good value for money too.

It looks and feels different enough from the competition to be a viable purchase and delivers everything you look for in a truck. The design is modern, yet simple, it has an ‘I mean business’ look about it and is very comfortable inside.

Under the hood is a 2.3-litre turbocharged four cylinder that delivers 270 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque. It uses a 10 speed automatic transmission to send drive to the rear or all wheels.

It uses a ladder frame with independent suspension to provide decent road manners even when empty. It’s surprisingly serene on the road with minimal rattles and road noise.

Seats are comfortable, even in back. You can specify the Ranger as wipe clean basic or leathery luxury depending on your needs. The usual Ford quality interior is reassuring and definitely doesn’t disappoint.

With decent handling, a huge variety of configurations and equipment levels, the Ford Ranger was built to sell. An electrified version would surely do the same, more so in Canada than the US I imagine but not many people say not to electrical assistance!

The Ford Range is available at Northway Ford Lincoln, 388 King George Road Brantford ON N3S 3N2.
