As someone with fond memories of going to the movies as a child and who liked to visit a drive-in at every opportunity, the news that Ford have applied for a patent for a mobile movie theatre option for their trucks struck me as a great move. Sure, not everyone is going to drive around town in their F-150 with a big screen in back but football Sunday or movie night could get a whole lot more interesting!
The patent has a self-contained unit that clips into the back of a truck and extend up to show the screen like a projector. A separate unit will house the projector and the speakers and will connect to the screen to make an entire unit. The screen faces out the rear and will be viewable at a decent distance.
So instead of putting a mattress in back and reversing into the drive in as people do now, the back of the truck becomes the movie theatre. It’s a very neat idea!
Whether this will ever hit production or not is up in the air. Ford has thousands of patents and only a percentage of them ever become a reality. As a movie fan, I sure hope this is one of them!
