Ford Mustang Mach-E now officially a New York taxi

Ford Mustang Mach-E now officially a New York taxi

The first Ford Mustang Mach-E has taken on that iconic yellow colour and has been adopted as a New York taxi. It’s the first of many and is paving the way for the new Ford to become the go-to vehicle for taxis across other cities too.

The company that runs the new EV taxi said they have plans to operate 50 and they will be split between the Ford Mustang Mach-E and the Tesla Model Y.

We know which we would rather ride in!

Tesla taxis have been around a while, including in NYC, but they are something of a rarity because of limited charging opportunities.

The company behind these Ford Mustang Mach-E, Gravity, has installed their own chargers in their own garage. This will probably mean having to go back to base for lunch while the car charges, but otherwise is a great solution to a thorny problem in our cities.

We expect other cities will begin adopting EVs in greater numbers as range and price parity improves.

Ford Mustang Mach-E

The Ford Mustang Mach-E is Ford’s well-advertised all-electric vehicle designed from the ground up as an EV. To say it has changed the way we look at electric driving is an understatement.

Ignore the Mustang part of the name and you’ll see a solid, everyday electric crossover that delivers everything you could ask, and then some.

The design is sleek with a lovely front end with angled lighting, pony badge on the grille and a curved hood. All for aesthetics of course!

The rest of the car is equally slick, with smooth lines, nice alloy wheels and an aero profile.

Inside, the cabin is mostly very nice. There are some cheap plastics here and there but overall, the materials quality is excellent.

The Mach-E range

There are a couple of options if you’re shopping for a Ford Mustang Mach-E.

You can have the AWD or RWD, Extended Range or ‘standard’ range. The trims are Select, Premium California Route 1 and GT.

The RWD version uses a single motor with 266 hp or 290 hp and 371 lb-ft of torque. The AWD version uses a motor on each axle and delivers 346 hp and 428 lb-ft of torque.

The GT trim uses a pair of motors for 480 hp and 600 lb-ft of torque or 634 lb-ft in the GT Performance.

Range is between 230 miles with the 70 kwh battery and 300 miles depending on the trim you buy.

Charging will take between 14 hours if you use a 240 volt outlet or faster with the range of fast chargers you can use or buy.

Ford has delivered an amazing EV with the Ford Mustang Mach-E. It looks good, drives well and while heavy, still has decent road manners.

If you were tempted to join the electric revolution, there’s no better way to do it. It’s much prettier than a Tesla and doesn’t have the same brand stigma either.

It can be fast, have a long range or both depending on the model you choose. Right now, few other EVs in this class can offer that!
