Ford Mustang Mach-E GT Performance Edition

Ford Mustang Mach-E GT Performance Edition

The Mustang Mach-E GT Performance Edition has been hotly anticipated ever since the original was announced. It’s the performance model of the new Ford electric car with more power that the current model.

The wait is finally over. We now know just what the Ford Mustang Mach-E GT and the Mustang GT Performance Edition will be capable of.

The Ford Mustang Mach-E GT Performance Edition has an official range of 260 miles.

The standard GT can make 270 miles.

The combined output of the twin electric motors in the Performance Edition is the equivalent of 480 hp and 634 lb-ft of torque. That gives it a 0-62mph time of just 3.5 seconds.

The GT model has the same 480 hp but 600 lb-ft of torque and hits 62 in 3.7 seconds.

Those are impressive figures and close to what Ford had originally promised!

2020 Ford Mustang Mach-E

To say the Ford Mustang Mach-E has been a success is something of an understatement. Pre-orders sold out, the order books are full and the GT and GT Performance Edition have a waiting list.

Despite the Mustang name, this is an SUV. An all-electric SUV using a new chassis, drivetrain and new everything. It’s a great looking vehicle and manages to look fast even when sitting still.

The design is sinuous with a low front end, filled grille with pony in the centre, angled lights, and lower sill detailing that adds interest. The hood is curved, the side panels detailed and the entire package looks definitely 21st century.

Inside is light and spacious with lovely front seats, a huge centre touchscreen, a digital dashboard and contrasting trim and stitching. The pillars seem narrow, offering lots of glass and excellent visibility.

Engine and drivetrain

The Ford Mustang Mach-E uses a pair of electric motors front and rear or just the rear depending on the model you buy. Single motor variants drive the rear wheels only while twin motors offer AWD.

The Standard Range model comes with a 68kWh battery pack with a range of around 270 miles and the equivalent of 266 hp.

The Extended Range model gets an 88kWh battery with a range of around 370 miles and 290 hp or 346 hp depending on the motor configuration.

The engine is quiet when driving, with just a slight whine audible from within the cabin. It’s a nice sound once you get used to it, which will take a while if you have spent the past few decades listening to a gas engine.

The steering and suspension are taught but not tight and you feel the road beneath you enough to be engaged but not enough to feel every bump and pothole. It’s a well-balanced drive and something Ford should be rightfully proud of.

Ford needed the Ford Mustang Mach-E to work and it has. They sunk so much money into the project that anything less than complete success wouldn’t do. The car they delivered is everything they wanted and more.
