Ford Mustang Mach-E Earns A Top Safety Pick

Ford Mustang Mach-E Earns A Top Safety Pick

There are many reasons to buy a Ford Mustang Mach-E and now you have another. The electric Ford has been awarded Top Safety Pick by the US IIHS. If you’re planning to buy an electric car in the near future, you could do a lot worse than the Ford Mustang Mach-E!

The Ford Mustang Mach-E almost won Top Safety Pick Plus but fell slightly in the lights on the Select and California Route 1 models. Other trims received Good ratings for their lights.

“This award validates the efforts of the Mustang Mach-E team to create an electric vehicle that not only turns heads, but helps keep our customers and their passengers safe,” said Hau Thai-Tang, Ford chief product platform and operations officer.

If you needed an excuse to check out this brand new electric car, we would say this is the perfect one!

2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E

We may not agree that the car deserves to be called a Mustang but we do all agree that the Mach-E is a superb electric vehicle.

The design is superb. It’s curvaceous, smooth, good looking and offers a multitude of reasons to just look and stare.

The front end uses Mustang lights but within a unique grille with logo in the centre, nice lower sill, curved hood with panel detailing, curving windshield and very curved roof.

The profile is part crossover and part fastback and really works. More panel detailing down the side with a pronounced waistline keeps things interesting.

The rear is also tidy, with an almost Jaguar look combined with Mustang-style rear lights.

It’s a very successful design that seems to have gone down exceptionally well.

Interior and driving experience

The interior is exactly as you would expect from Ford. A competent cabin with good quality materials, a huge touchscreen display, digital instruments and comfortable seating.

Controls are minimal, with most things controlled by touch. There is storage everywhere and the cabin is definitely more crossover than Mustang, which is a good thing.

The driving experience is smooth and comfortable. The electric motors deliver instant power but in a controlled way. Another way this is more crossover than Mustang. Again, it works in its favour in this guise.

Motor and mechanicals

The 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E uses an electric motor and battery combination to provide drive. There are two versions, a 75.7 kWh and a 98.8 kWh version for longer range.

The motor is mounted on the rear or both axles to provide drive and deliver up to 305 miles of range. The smaller battery pack should give you around 211 miles.

Charging depends on the voltage but a 240v outlet should charge the Mach-E from zero to 80% overnight. A larger Ford charge station is available at extra cost which can fully charge the car overnight.

Output depends on the model you choose but ranges from the equivalent of 266 hp up to 480 hp.

With its new Top Safety Pick designation, the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E is even more attractive. Check it out at Northway Ford Lincoln, 388 King George Road Brantford ON N3S 3N2.
