Ford Mustang is the world’s best selling sports coupe

640 × 480
In news that will surprise nobody who has seen the new Ford Mustang up close, the car has apparently sold more units than any other sports coupe across the world. That’s a first for Ford and a first for a North American car.

Foreign cars tend to do well in the U.S. and Canada because they look better, drive much better and offer refinement our domestic brands find hard to match. North American cars are often derided in Europe for not cornering properly, being basic, made of iron and nailed together and of not being fuel efficient. So it’s nice when one of our own shows the rest of the world how it’s done!

That’s exactly what the 2016 Ford Mustang has done.

Ford designed the car from the ground up to have global appeal. Including right hand drive and smaller engine displacements has helped. The V8 version is apparently the best seller, especially in Australia and New Zealand. In Europe where gas is more expensive, smaller engines sell in large amounts too.

Ford said they have sold over 16,600 Mustangs during 2015 despite shortages and despite only being available from the summer. Let’s hope more domestic models can achieve the same.

2016 Ford Mustang
The 2016 Ford Mustang has done more for the wider appeal of the model than any previous incarnation. Redesigned from the ground up last year, this is the second year of the new Mustang and it’s doing well across the world. If it can outsell a Porsche 911 in Germany and a Mini in the UK, it has to be good!

With build quality better than ever, a convincingly good interior, tight handling and a wide range of options and trims, this is a driver’s car with personality. It is available as a coupe or convertible and both are equally impressive. Five trim levels offer either luxury or sports orientation so the key markets are covered. The same with the engines. Opt for a ‘sensible’ EcoBoost or go all out with the V8, the experience will still be stunning.

The introduction of Ford Sync 3 and the inclusion of plenty of safety tech is also a good reason to buy a 2016 Ford Mustang. With anti-lock brakes, traction control, stability control, rearview camera, front-seat side airbags, side curtain airbags (available only in the coupe) and driver and front passenger knee airbags as standard, the Mustang is safer than it has ever been.
