Ford increasing production of the Expedition and Navigator
Posted on March 26, 2019
Ford and Lincoln seem to be riding high with their new models. The Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator have been in such demand that the automaker is having to increase production by 20% to keep up. Fortunately, both SUVs are manufactured at the same Ford plant in Louisville so the practicalities are very straightforward.
Sales of both vehicles have increase exponentially. The Expedition is apparently up some 35% over 2017 sales and the Navigator is up a massive 70% over the past year. Given that these two are premium SUVs, that’s great news for the company.
2019 Ford Expedition
The 2019 Ford Expedition is a full size SUV that offers acres of interior space with the comfort and technology to match. It’s a good looking vehicle too with the new Ford design characteristics making for a handsome vehicle both inside and out.
Inside the Expedition, space is definitely not at a premium. There is lots of space in front and at back and the vehicle can seat up to seven adults comfortably with room left for cargo in the back.
Under the hood is a capable twin turbocharged 3.5-litre V6 engine that makes 375 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque. An upgraded engine in the Platinum trim increases output to 400 hp and 480 lb-ft of torque. Both engines use Ford’s 10 speed automatic transmission.
2019 Lincoln Navigator
The 2019 Lincoln Navigator is based on the Expedition but Lincoln went their own way with the design. It looks and feels like a Lincoln and while the profile is similar, this is an entirely different vehicle. It looks premium both inside and out and has a much more mature profile than previous Navigators.
The redesign has brought a much better look and feel than before. With new lights, new grille, new cleaner lines and a much simpler look. Inside, the cabin is as sumptuous as ever with leather everywhere, smart controls, solid feeling trim and finishing and all the technology you could ever need in a car.
Under the hood of the Navigator is the same 3.5-litre twin turbo but it produces 450 hp and 510 lb-ft of torque as standard. It also uses the same ten speed automatic transmission to great effect.
Both vehicles are premium items and come with the features, technology, comfort and price that goes with it. Despite that, demand has been surprisingly high and Ford are now having to ramp up to keep up. That’s great news for everyone as buyers get a fantastic SUV and Ford gets to employ more people to meet demand!
