Ford Fiesta ST outperforms Hellcat

640 × 480
I always seem to root for the underdog so when someone told me there was a video online of a Fiesta ST taking on the mighty Hellcat, I wanted to see. Boy was I not disappointed. The sight of the little Ford leaving the mighty cat in the rearview was a sight to behold.

From the moment the video starts, you know this isn’t your usual Fiesta. That engine noise did not come from the standard 1.6-litre engine that normally propels the ST. Neither did the exhaust, the turbo we think we can hear or the transmission. The car doesn’t even seem to notice when it hits the rev limiter!

This video montage doesn’t stop with the Hellcat. It beats a Corvette, tricked out Mustang and even a Suzuki GSXR 750. I have owned a GSXR and know first hand how fast they are!

This isn’t your run of the mill Fiesta but it is indicative of what is possible when you put your mind to it.

2019 Ford Fiesta
This is apparently the final Fiesta Ford is making for the north American market. The 2019 Ford Fiesta will be the last available here, for now at least. This little subcompact is a common sight in our cities as it is light, comfortable, easy to park and can fit four plus groceries with ease.

The ride is taken from the European model which makes it firm but very responsive. Added to a stiff chassis and composed suspension and you have a good balance of comfort and manoeuvrability. It’s a nicely balanced car.

Inside, the cabin is modest but feels bigger thanks to the volume of light and comfortable seating. You can fit adults in the back along with shopping in the rear too.

Depending on the model, you get a 1.6-litre four cylinder with 120 hp or a turbocharged 1.6 in the ST. The turbo adds 77hp taking it up to 197hp. Considering this car weighs less than my weekly grocery shop, that’s a lot of power to weight.

With a great design, lots of options and that spacious cabin, the Fiesta is a much more capable, and comfortable car than you might initially imagine. If you’re looking for a first car or a city car, you would do well to consider this.
