Ford bringing back Mustang SVO?
Posted on April 16, 2019
Rumour central has Ford considering reliving the eighties with a new Mustang SVO model. There is no confirmation as yet but ‘sources’ say Ford are actively planning a special Mustang SVO for release in the 2020 model year.
The original Mustang SVO was around in the 1980s, a product of Ford’s Special Vehicle Operations group designed to make the pony car cool again back in the day. A thirsty engine and high gas prices soon saw the end of it. With up to 205 hp out of a turbocharged four cylinder, it didn’t light the world on fire but was powerful for its time.
Ford now thinks it’s a good time to bring it back.
According to rumours, the new Mustang SVO will use the 2.3-litre EcoBoost engine with some upgrades and special tuning to exceed 310 hp. It will also receive suspension and brake tweaks to make it very driveable on the road.
Given how superb the current Mustang model is, adding an SVO variant will go down exceptionally well with fans. I hope this rumour turns out to be true!
2019 Ford Mustang
The 2019 Ford Mustang makes four cylinder sports cars cool again and for that we must thank it. Whether you drive the four or the V8, you get a powerful engine with the chassis, suspension and transmission to get the very best out of it. Combined with modern technology and safety equipment, this is definitely the pony car for the modern age.
The design is awesome. It’s a modern reimagining of a classic. It’s aggressive and has a definite intent without being too over the top. The low front end and angled lights give the impression of a shark while not alienating buyers. The curved hood and angled windshield rolls round effortlessly to the small trunk at the rear while fluted panels and complementing alloy wheels complete the look.
Inside, the cabin is geared up for two to drive in comfort but two can fit in back as long as they aren’t too tall. Technology is all around but subtly designed into the dashboard so it is never dominant, just supportive. Seats are equally supportive, especially in leather.
Under the hood is a 2.3-litre turbocharged four cylinder that makes 310 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque or a 5.0-litre V8 in the GT that makes 460 hp and 420 lb-ft of torque. Both use a six speed manual or ten speed automatic transmission to send power to the rear wheels.
With lots of safety tech, competitive prices, decent gas mileage and those looks, the 2019 Ford Mustang is a top seller. Visit Northway Ford Lincoln
