2022 Kia EV6 First Looks Are A Great Start

2022 Kia EV6 First Looks Are A Great Start

We got our first look at the new 2022 Kia EV6 last week. After hints, teaser images and a few rumours, we now get to see the car in all its glory. Was the new Kia worth the wait? We think so!

The 2022 Kia EV6 is the first in a long line of EVs we expect from Kia and the brand is off to a great start!

“EV6 is the embodiment of the new Kia. It is born to inspire every journey, through bold design, progressive engineering, innovative technologies, and exciting electric performance,” Ho Sung Song, Kia’s president & CEO said.

“EV6 represents the beginning of Kia’s long-term commitment to sustainable mobility, accelerating the transition not only to clean transportation, but also products, materials and manufacturing.”

We have covered the design of the 2022 Kia EV6 before but it’s worth covering it again. It’s a crossover shape with very aero intent. It’s smooth, slinky and looks like it could slip through the air without leaving a ripple.

While a crossover, the design is more fastback or coupe. A low front end with narrow grille, angled lighting and curved wheel arches flow into a very raked windshield and over a smooth roof.

The profile is equally smooth with a unique lower sill adding interest. Inset door handles also feature, as do some pretty cool wheels. A single angled light bar at the back complements some angled bodywork to complete the look.

The EV6 looks very planted thanks to each wheel being as far into the corner as possible. This should provide a very stable ride with minimal body roll or dive under heavy braking. This configuration also means slightly more room in the cabin, which is a nice byproduct.

Under that sinuous hood is a pair of electric motors rated at the electric equivalent of 577 hp and 546 lb-ft of torque. AWD and direct drive allows the EV6 to put all that power down instantly to a top speed of 250 km/h.

The top of the range EV6 will come with an electronic limited slip differential and a 77.4 kWh setup. A smaller 58 kWh pack will also be available.

There will also be a single motor variant with rear wheel drive and longer range at some point.

Kia says charging will take a mere 18 minutes to go from 10 to 80% charge. A quick 62 mile range charge will take just four and a half minutes in some variants too.

The Kia EV6 is the first of 11 EVs we can expect from Kia and one of 7 using the new dedicated E-GMP platform designed specifically for it. As the name implies, this could be the first of many counting down or just the first model that was completed. We will have to wait and see.

We expect to learn a lot more about the Kia EV6 over the coming weeks to keep an eye on the blog as we’ll be covering it here.
