Electric Pacifica on the way?
Posted on December 12, 2016
After the news a couple of weeks ago that the new Chrysler Pacifica was getting a hybrid version, the news that an all-electric variant was also on its way was welcome. Electric cars are becoming a more realistic prospects now batteries can get you further and prices are becoming sensible. So will Chrysler announce an electric Pacifica soon?
Rumour central says yes. We now know that FCA as a whole is not attending the Detroit Auto Show but instead will be showing at the Consumer Electronics Show on January 3 2017. Given that CES is more about electronics, hence the name, it isn’t unreasonable to think that one of the vehicles in question will be the electric Pacifica. We have known it was coming and this time is as good as any.
Bloomberg are one outfit convinced that there will be an electric Pacifica at CES. They cited ‘people familiar with the plans’ saying that the electric car will build on the hybrid and may even form the basis for the car they are allegedly providing Google to deliver fully autonomous driving later on.
2017 Chrysler Pacifica
The 2017 Chrysler Pacifica is a real game changer for FCA. Not only does it push forward the minivan segment by a decade, it also proves to the world that when the company puts its mind to something, it can achieve it. The Town & Country sorely needed updating and this is the perfect way to do it.
The one thing that the Pacifica does that no other minivan on the market does is appeal to those without families. I spoke to someone the other day who wanted one to transport his bicycles around the country. He said the Pacifica was more comfortable than a cargo van and kept his bikes more protected than a truck. How many other family haulers can say they have the same appeal?
The 3.6-litre engine produces 287 hp and 262 lb-ft of torque and send it to the front wheels via a nine-speed automatic transmission. There is enough power there for any amount of hauling, plus the transmission is smooth and always in the right gear at the right time. Whether it’s bicycles or the family, this vehicle gets you places.
The 2017 Pacifica comes with a range of standard safety features, including traction and stability control, antilock disc brakes, side curtain airbags, front seat side airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags and a rearview camera. Optional safety tech includes rear parking sensors, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning, lane departure intervention, forward collision warning, forward collision mitigation with automatic braking, adaptive cruise control, a 360-degree top-down camera system and an automated parking system. There is also Uconnect Access with emergency assistance, remote door locking/unlocking and vehicle location services.
