Electric Ford F-150 truck confirmed

Electric Ford F-150 truck confirmed

Thanks to an agreement Ford made with the US United Auto Workers union, we know that an electric F-150 is coming and that it will be made in Michigan. Ford agreed a $6 billion investment deal over four years with the union to help safeguard jobs and keep the region at the forefront of auto manufacturing.

A side-effect of that agreement was the confirmation of electric and hybrid variants of the Ford F-150 truck. The agreement says Ford will add a further 2,700 jobs at Michigan plants to build the Bronco and F-150 and expand their “modification center to support autonomous vehicles and other vehicles.”

Ford is planning a new version of the gas-powered F-150 but also an electric and a hybrid version. Those will be coming in 2020/21. The gas engine will come first with the EV and hybrid soon after.

Given the speed at which automakers are developing and announcing new EVs, Ford cannot waste time with theirs. We know the automaker is planning a lot of electric vehicles over the next few years, had heard rumours and seen a concept electric truck that pulled those rail cars. This is the first official confirmation that it is happening.

2020 Ford F-150

The 2020 Ford F-150 has to be one of the best trucks on the market. It’s flexible, comfortable, can be luxurious or completely practical. It really could be every truck for everyone and keeps going from strength to strength. When the EV arrives, it really could be everyone’s next vehicle.

The 2020 Ford F-150 is an evolution of an already successful truck so why mess with that? It has had some slight visual upgrades, some safety upgrades and some trim and feature tweaks but is otherwise the good looking and ever-reliable truck it has always been.

The design manages to be attractive and utilitarian at the same time. The cabin is roomy and offers good visibility all around. It can be kept basic and easy to clean or be luxurious and fully featured. The options list is huge and this is one truck you really can make your own.

All of the engines in the truck are strong. The base 3.3-litre V6 delivers 290 hp, the turbocharged 2.7-litre delivers 325 hp while the 5.0-litre V8 delivers 395 hp. There is also a turbocharged 3.5-litre V6 that delivers 450 hp for Raptors and a V6 diesel that delivers 250 hp and 440 lb-ft of torque. All have smooth power delivery throughout the 10 gears and enough power for any use.

The 2020 Ford F-150 is already at the top of its game so it will be interesting to see what Ford has planned. The introduction of an electric and a hybrid version should be interesting too!
