Durango SRT police vehicle concept

640 × 411
While just an idea and not slated for production, the Durango SRT police vehicle concept shows what can be achieved with a solid Dodge platform and the right engineering skills.

The Durango SRT police vehicle concept has taken the standard SRT and shoehorned the Hellcat engine under the hood. The supercharged 6.2-litre engine from the Challenger Hellcat Redeye delivers 797 hp even in this SUB guide.

Nicknamed ‘Speed Trap’, this Durango has been upgraded to be able to cope with this power. It has lowered and stiffened suspension, new 20 inch wheels with Pirelli P Zero tires, uprated Brembo brake callipers front and rear with uprated vented rotors. A cat-back exhaust system finishes off the tweaks.

Thanks to an already very capable platform and transmission, both have been left stock and can cope well with the extra power being delivered.

The concept is competing in the One Lap of America, the Cannonball-like circuit of the US over the coming weeks.

2019 Dodge Durango
The Dodge Durango never seems to grab the headlines. It’s a solid SUV that quietly goes about its business without making a fuss and I think it is better for that. It’s a good looking vehicle with solid underpinnings and some excellent engines. With a competent chassis and great road manners, it’s an excellent option for those who value the driving experience.

The design is very much a Dodge but isn’t as imposing as it could be. The new look is masculine but not so much that would put you off. It rides well and offers decent ground clearance, great visibility all round and an unfussy design that lets the build quality and performance speak for itself.

There are three main engine options to choose from. The 3.6-litre V6 that delivers 293 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque, a 5.7-litre V8 that produces 360 hp and 390 lb-ft of torque or the 6.4-litre V8 in the SRT that delivers 475 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque. Each uses an eight speed automatic transmission to send power to the rear or all wheels.

With three rows of seating, you can fit adults in every row with space left over for shopping or cargo in back. Fold the rear two rows down and you get an enviable space for larger objects. The cabin is well built, light and has enough room for everyone. It’s a nice place to be, whichever seat you’re in.

The SRT may not have the 797 of the concept but has more than enough power to put a smile on your face. Check out the Durango at Unique Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram, 915 Walkers Line, Burlington, ON  L7N 3V8.
