Dodge planning to reveal 3 new performance vehicles in August

Dodge have said they are planning reveal three global performance models at Dodge Speed Week in August in Detroit.

The reveals will be in three parts. The first on August 15 will concern existing models, presumably updates to them. The second on August 16 will be a "gateway muscle announcement," while the final one on August 17 will be something about a future muscle car.

Dodge are being cagey about specifics right now to that’s all we can give you.

"All I can say is the future of our brand will be on display during Dodge Speed Week, and we’re throwing open our garage doors so our fans can get a peek for themselves. It’s going to be an electric summer for Dodge," said Tim Kuniskis, Dodge brand chief executive officer.

Many of us in the industry are reading a lot into ‘electric summer’ as we know the automaker has plans to release some electrified performance cars soon.

While the V8 is still king at Dodge, it has had its time and electrification is the way forward.

We don’t expect Dodge to announce a pure electric car just yet, so perhaps it could refer to some kind of hybrid vehicles.

We don’t have long to wait as it’s only two months away, but it’s going to be a long two months!

2022 Dodge Charger

One of the cars that may be getting a little electrification is the Dodge Charger. It’s a full size sedan that has climbed its way to the top of many domestic car charts.

The Charger is a great looking car. A little masculine sure, but it’s a well-designed sedan that reassures us that it isn’t all about crossovers and SUVs. The Charger is alive and kicking and we doubt it’s going anywhere soon.

The design has muscular styling, with big body panels, a wide stance and that large hood.

Inside, the cabin will likely include leather interior and very comfortable seating. The driving position is commanding and provides a good view of instruments and the road, ideal if you’re driving the V8.

Under the hood

Under the hood is either a V6 or V8 engine. The 3.6-litre V6 is solid and reliable and delivers 300 hp.

There are a few V8s to choose from, the 5.7-litre V8 with 370 hp, 6.4-litre V8 with 717 hp and the supercharged 6.2-litre V8 that produces 797 hp.

All deliver awesome power to the rear or all wheels.

Despite the power, the 2022 Dodge Charger is actually very easy to drive and delivers a smooth driving experience with a light foot. Things can become a little more boisterous with a heavier foot, but day to day, it’s a very easy car to live with.

All trim levels are generously equipped and while you won’t benefit from the latest safety tech, you will get decent infotainment, leather interior, touchscreen and perhaps adaptive dampers.
