The Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat Will Be Back

The Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat Will Be Back

The Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat is the world’s most powerful production SUV and was originally limited to a run of 2,000 units. Demand was so high that Dodge has decided to extend that to another 1,000.

That’s good news to the hundreds of you who put their name down for one of these and just missed out.

“As we finalized the production plan for this amazing SUV, we found a way to move some 6.2-liter Hemi Hellcat V8 engines from other vehicles to ensure every ‘sold order’ in our systems will get built,” said the Director of Dodge Operations North America Bob Broderdorf in a statement.

Order books were originally opened in November 2020 but all 2,000 sold out right away. That left a lot of disappointed people. People now able to re-order the Durango SRT Hellcat.

This really will be it though as the Hellcat engine won’t pass new emissions regulations that are coming in 2022.

Durango SRT Hellcat

The Durango SRT Hellcat takes a well-known family SUV and turns it up to 11.

It uses the standard Durango design with a modified front end and larger splitter, racing stripes, new alloys and new Hellcat badging. It’s a handsome SUV that isn’t shy about showing what it is and why should it be?

Inside, the three rows remain. The driver’s position has had an upgrade with a flat bottom steering wheel with paddle shifters, new 10” touchscreen with Uconnect 5, navigation, wireless charging and very comfortable seating.

The driver’s position has been built like that of the Challenger and looks good. The instruments are clear and easy to read, there is some nice contrasting stitching and Hellcat logos in key areas and alloy pedals.

Uconnect 5 comes with hardware improvements to make it faster than ever and supports Sirius XM radio, Amazon Alexa and TomTom navigation.

Under the hood is where the main news lies though. The 6.2-litre supercharged V8 that delivers 710 hp and 645 lb-ft of torque. It’s a noisy unit with that beautiful whine that only a supercharger can make.

The engine uses a modified 8 speed automatic transmission to deliver power to the specially tuned suspension with adaptive Bilstein dampers and Pirelli P Zero tires. There are also six piston Brembo disc brakes to help stop the beast once it’s up to speed.

All wheel drive is standard, which should also help keep this beast on the road during adverse weather.

If you put your name down for the original batch of Durango SRT Hellcat SUVs, you may be lucky. Dodge said they would be fulfilling any outstanding orders from the original run and then open up orders again for any that are left over.

Then that’s it. For real this time.
