An Electric Dodge Muscle Car is Coming in 2024

Of all the shifts to electric we are seeing, it was performance marque Dodge that gave us the most pause. How would they handle it? How would the new performance marque of Stellantis handle electric? We now have our answer. Dodge announced last week they were planning the world’s first electric muscle car and it should be here in 2024.

“If a charger can make a Charger faster, then we’re all for it,” said Dodge CEO Tim Kuniskis at the announcement.

“Our engineers are reaching a practical limit of what we can squeeze from internal combustion innovation,” he said. “They know we know that electric motors can give us more. And if we know of a technology that can give our customers an advantage.”

The announcement came within a larger Stellantis EV Day where all the relevant brands outlined their future plans for vehicles.

Electric Dodge

The video doesn’t give much away but we see a hint of what could easily be a Challenger reimagined for electric under that sheet. There is a tease of flowing bodywork but not much else.

We don’t know anything about the electric Dodge as yet. We don’t even know if that was a real car under the sheet or just a shell.

What we do know is Dodge has finally woken up to the way the world is going. We applaud it for that as we didn’t want them falling behind or becoming irrelevant in the electric future.

There’s no escaping the fact that Dodge has a lot of work ahead of them. They once apparently said they weren’t going electric and that they wouldn’t make electric cars. Now they are still saying that but with the caveat that they will be making electric muscle cars.

Except there already is an electric muscle car, the Tesla Models S Plaid. The Ford Mach-E outperforms many muscle cars already and we haven’t even tried the GT yet.

While this all sounds negative, we don’t mean it that way. We love the Challenger and Charger and would love to see a new generation of clean versions.

We cannot wait for the electric Dodge, even though we’ll have to. We expect we won’t get much news at all for the next 12-18 months as the automaker works feverishly to develop a viable electric muscle car.

It’s going to have to compete with that Tesla and Ford Mach-E so there’s a lot riding on the outcome!
