Dodge Challenger SRT Demon: A Quick Overview
Dodge Challenger SRT Demon: A Quick Overview
Posted on January 18, 2017
Dodge have announced that they are reanimating the Demon moniker and will be showing a Challenger SRT Demon at the New York Auto Show this year. While they don’t tell us much about what to expect, the one thing they do say made us sit up and listen, that it will be ‘more extreme than the Hellcat.’
Given the Hellcat is pretty extreme, the Demon has a lot to live up to!
We all know the Challenger Hellcat puts out 707 hp thanks to that supercharged 6.2-litre Hemi engine. If the Demon is more extreme than that, what on earth is it going to be? In a just world, a Demon engine would put out 666 hp, but given that number is less than the Hellcat delivers, it isn’t going to be so.
“Most cars attempt to be everything to everybody. Then there are the rare few that revel in a single objective, rendering them totally irresistible to a subculture," said Tim Kuniskis, Head of Passenger Car Brands Dodge, SRT, Chrysler and FIAT FCA North America. "The Dodge Challenger SRT Demon is conceived, designed and engineered for a subculture of enthusiasts who know that a tenth is a car and a half second is your reputation."
As is usual for such releases, the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon has its own minisite and social aspects where you can keep up with developments. Dodge promise a new video each week leading up to New York so we will learn more as time goes on. I shall keep an eye on things to see how they develop.
2017 Dodge Challenger
The 2017 Dodge Challenger is a driver’s car. It doesn’t have the smooth precision of a BMW or the silky smoothness of a Lincoln but what it does have is grin-inducing, which is why it still sells so well.
The design is a perfect blend between heritage and practicality. The footprint is huge, with a wide stance, long profile and squared-off body. It looks just like the Challengers of old but with a new coat and is very successful for that. The interior is one of the best in its class, with a great layout, robust controls, lots of passenger space and a driving position that is hard to beat.
Available in SXT, R/T, R/T Scat Pack, SRT 392 and SRT Hellcat trims, there is everything here from the mild mannered SXT right up to the spine tingling Hellcat and plenty in-between. Whatever your driving style, if you like the idea of a Challenger, there is a trim here to suit. With a range of V6 and V8 engines, technology levels, comfort options and more, the Challenger is as relevant and as exciting now as the very first model.
