Dodge Challenger Hennessey HPE1000: A Quick Overview

Dodge Challenger Hennessey HPE1000: A Quick Overview

640 × 409

The Dodge Challenger is very fertile ground for tuners and customization outfits. We don’t cover them very often here at Car Nation Canada because they don’t really fit the dealership model. Every now and again though, one comes along that it too good to ignore and this is one of those times. The big Dodge is forever changed with this new package.

Enter the Dodge Challenger HPE1000 from Hennessey. It takes a Dodge Challenger Hellcat Redeye and adds more power. The HPE1000 kit takes the already impressive output of the Challenger and boosts it to 1,035 hp and 948 lb-ft of torque. If the standard Hellcat isn’t quite enough for you, this sure will be!

Hennessey HPE1000

The Hennessey HPE1000 kit adds a larger 4.5-litre supercharger to the already awesome 6.2-litre V8 engine. It also adds upgraded pulleys, a new throttle body, long-tube headers, upgraded high flow fuel injectors, high-flow catalytic converters, uprated supercharger bypass valve, uprated air induction system and dyno testing.

As part of the package, Hennessey will dyno the car before the upgrades and then again after. They will then test your car over 200 miles to make sure everything runs perfectly and add a 12 month or 12,000 mile warranty to the changes before handing the car back.

The ‘standard’ Dodge Challenger Hellcat Redeye produces 797 hp and 707 lb-ft of torque using standard gas. As long as you use race gas with the HPE1000, you get to enjoy a four-figure output from an already accomplished engine.

Dodge Challenger Hellcat Redeye

You don’t see may Dodge Challenger Hellcat Redeye around Canada. There are a few but they are still very exclusive and perhaps reserved for weekend driving. The car is exceptional. It’s surprisingly well behaved at lower speeds and when performing daily commutes or school runs. It’s only when you hit the loud pedal that the character changes.

The ride is relatively smooth considering this is a performance car. The steering is light, suspension well-damped and the entire package is responsive and easy to handle. You do need to be an alert driver though as there is a lot of power on tap and it is all too easy to carry too much speed into corners or where you really shouldn’t. With a little self-control, the Dodge Challenger Hellcat Redeye is an awesome car.

The HPE1000 kit will run you an extra $35,000 (US) over the cost of the Redeye so if you have deep enough pockets and a real need for straight line speed, this is it. For the rest of us, the entire Dodge Challenger range is enough car for most needs.
