Canadian Ford Ranger recall

Canadian Ford Ranger recall

Ford is recalling 29,458 Rangers across Canada manufactured between 2004-2006 to address a potential airbag issue. The airbags were manufactured by Takata, the firm implicated in failures over the past year or so. Ford is recalling this model as an extra precaution.

If you own a Ford Ranger manufactured between 2004-2006, contact your local Car Nation Canada dealership and book it on for a service. We perform recall and technical service bulletin checks as part of all vehicle servicing so can manage this recall for you.

The airbag issue has affected over 28 million vehicles across North America. The issue is apparently faulty airbag inflators. These inflators are manufactured by Takata and can explode and send shrapnel into the cabin of the vehicle. So far, nine people in the U.S. have been killed by these inflators.

Recalls have included just about every manufacturer who sells cars in North America. A further 5 million cars have just been recalled after another fatality in December 2015.

Ford Ranger
The Ford Ranger was one of the most popular trucks in the Americas. Produced between 1983 and 2011, three generations of Ranger powered millions of people across the continent and then the world. Someone joked once that after Armageddon, only the Ford Ranger would be on the road. It was that tough.

Replaced by the F-150, the Ford Ranger is still a regular sight on Canadian roads. Engines included a 4.0-litre V6 that produced 207 hp, a 3.0-litre V6 that generated 154 hp and a 2.3-litre four cylinder capable of 143 hp. They sent power to the wheels via a five speed manual or automatic transmission.

The Ford Ranger was a smaller truck that didn’t have the passenger space or power of competitors. This ended up being its downfall. While cheaper to buy and run than many of its contemporaries, it didn’t have as much power or ability as the competition. However, it did have reliability and dependability on its side which is why you still see so many of them still on the road.

So if you’re a proud owner of a Ford Ranger manufactured between 2004 and 2006, book it into your nearest Car Nation Canada dealership and we will arrange to have the airbag inflator changed as part of the service.
