Another Kia Sedona image surfaces

After sharing spy shots of the 2021 Kia Sedona last week, we now have an official rendering of the new minivan, dubbed the 2022 Sedona, direct from Kia. It’s an attractive vehicle and one that is going to change the way some people look at people carriers for good.

There are lots of ways I could liken this new vehicle to the way Chrysler revolutionized the Pacifica but I won’t. Suffice to say that minivans may finally be joining the 21st century.

Models like these will be why the segment survives despite the onslaught of crossovers.

2022 Kia Sedona

While only a rendering, the image tells us quite a lot about the new minivan.

It’s a squared-off profile with bold edges and an almost flat design. The front end has a hint of Range Rover about the lights while the tiger nose grille is still present and correct.

Body panels look relatively simple although the hood has detailing. A raked windshield rolls round into a fairly flat roof and tapers slightly to a sharply angled rear. There is a lot of glass and minimal pillaring down the body which could provide an interesting look.

The wheels seem overly large in the image, presumably for effect. Kia does have a tendency to give us some great looking alloys so I’m expecting nice wheels, just a more standard size.

2020 Kia Sedona

The current model Sedona is also good to look at. It’s a much more established model, having been with us since 2015 but has been continually refined since then to deliver a contemporary minivan that competes well.

The design is stylish and a little understated to suit its target market. The profile provides a grownup impression with smooth lines and nice detailing. It’s a substantial vehicle but not overbearing and that is camouflaged well by the design.

Inside, the 2020 Kia Sedona is both spacious and quiet. Materials quality is high, with lots of soft touch materials and upmarket upholstery. There is also a lot of light and three tows of comfortable seating. Upgrade to leather and your experience is genuinely transformed.

Under the hood is a very competent 3.3-litre V6 engine with 276 hp and an eight speed automatic transmission. It’s a silky drive that requires minimal effort to get from A to B.

The 2020 Kia Sedona has a five star safety rating from the US NHTSA. It comes standard with automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitors, lane-departure warnings, automatic high-beam headlights and adaptive cruise control on some trims.

The 2020 Kia Sedona is a very competitive minivan that is helping keep the segment going. If you’re in the market for a people carrier and don’t want to wait until next year, this Kia is the one to get!
