2022 Kia Stinger Scorpion Edition: A Quick Look

2022 Kia Stinger Scorpion Edition: A Quick Look

Kia isn’t usually one for masculine edition names but the 2022 Kia Stinger Scorpion Edition is an exception. It’s an appearance pack that takes the already great-looking car and turns it up a notch.

The 2022 Kia Stinger Scorpion Edition adds black exterior trim, black exhaust tips, mirror caps, rear trunk spoiler, black 19” alloy wheels and three unique colours.

Those colours are Snow White Pearl, Aurora Black and Ceramic Silver and they look good!

Inside, you get some faux carbon trim elements and red or black Nappa leather.

This new edition will complement the changes already announced for the 2022 Kia Stinger. Those include a new 2.5-litre turbo four engine, improvements to the 3.3-litre V6 and minor design updates including new LED lights and touchscreen inside.

2022 Kia Stinger

The 2022 Kia Stinger is a solid improvement on what is already an excellent design. It’s a car with big ambitions, to take the sedan fight straight to the Germans. While it’s up against fierce competition, we think the Stinger holds its own.

The design is long and low, with a long hood that slopes down at the front and a slim grille and lower sill. Angled lights keep the front end mean while the curved hood flows back into a steeply raked windshield.

The design is rounded and almost fastback rather than sedan. It sits low, has smooth lines and looks like it means business.

Inside, the Stinger continues the good work started by its predecessors with minimal changes. That means comfortable seating, a driver-centric position, simple controls, a neat touchscreen and everything where it should be.

The instruments have a small LED panel for information that can be upgraded to a larger version to show the reversing camera. You also get keyless entry, push button start, the option of 15 speaker Harmon Kardon audio, heated front seats and a lot more besides.

Under the hood will be a new 2.5-litre four cylinder engine with turbocharger that will deliver 300 hp and 311 lb-ft of torque. It will join the 3.3-litre V6 that now produces 368 hp and 376 lb-ft of torque.

Both engines will use an eight speed automatic to feed power to the rear wheels.

The drive from both engines is strong, with a genuine push as your foot hits the floor. The Stinger is surefooted, confident in corners and holds the road well. The sports suspension ensures you feel every part of the road so you know exactly what’s going on.

The 2022 Kia Stinger has some stiff competition from the likes of Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen but it more than holds its own. We would say it’s the ideal alternative for drivers who can look beyond the badge and who realize you don’t have to spend a fortune to drive a performance car.
