The 2022 Kia Soul has all the Right Changes

The 2022 Kia Soul has all the Right Changes

The 2022 Kia Soul has been revealed and it looks just as good as we thought it might. The redesign is modest but has the right changes in the right places and ensures the little Kia remains bang up to date.

The changes include a new Kia badge on the front, new wheel centre caps, new colour options, new interior screen and technology package.

It’s on the inside that you really notice the difference. The 2022 Kia Soul can feature a new 10.25” touchscreen with navigation, dual-zone automatic climate control system, push-button starter, wireless device charging pad and dual USB chargers.

A new Technology Package for the LX trim is also available. It includes alloy wheels, blind-spot monitors, forward and reverse automatic emergency braking and a driver attention monitor.

These features are standard on higher trims but now the base LX can enjoy them too.

Design and interior

The Kia Soul has always been a quirky car. It’s small, but doesn’t feel it. Funky but not overly so and is surprisingly fun to drive. All that glass means it feels light and spacious inside, even though the cabin is modestly sized.

The exterior of the 2022 Kia Soul is simple but effective. A tall front end with large lower grille, LED running lights, narrow headlights and lots of rounded edges abound. The upper part of the car looks all glass but uses clever dark body elements for the A, B and C pillars.

It’s a neat effect.

Kia interiors have gone from strength to strength and this is a case in point. Comfortable seating, soft touch materials, high quality trim elements and plenty of technology mean the ownership experience is always satisfying.

Engine and drivetrain

The 2022 Kia Soul has two engine options, both of which can be fun to drive. The first is a 2.0-litre four cylinder that produces 147 hp and the second is a turbocharged 1.6-litre that produces 201 hp.

The 2.0-litre uses a CVT transmission while the turbo uses a seven speed automatic. The manual option is no longer available.

Both engines are enough for this small, light car but the turbo adds a little extra fun. Both transmission types handle day to day driving well and are smooth, without any obvious hunting for gears in the auto.

There is of course the Soul EV for anyone wanting to drive green but we don’t know if that will appear as a 2022 model. Kia had said in previous releases that they were concentrating more on the Niro EV at this level so we don’t know if the Soul EV is being updated or not.

The standard 2022 Kia Soul is frugal and should get decent real world gas mileage so it should still be a sensible way to get around.
