A Closer Look At The 2022 Kia K5

In another piece of Kia news this week, the 2022 Kia K5 sedan has launched. It’s the second year of the car and as such, offers minor changes to the original.
The 2022 Kia K5 is a great looking sedan. If any car was capable of pulling people away from crossovers, this would be it. It’s handsome, well balanced and good to look at, all things we like in a car.
2022 Kia K5 design
2022 Kia K5 replaced the old Kia Optima and has done more than just change the name.
It’s a racy design with low front end that has more than a hint of Charger about it. That curved hood rolls down to the narrow grille and angled lights and the neat LED surround adds genuine interest.
The windshield flows over a rounded roof and down to the trunk. The side profile looks amazing with simple panel detailing down the side, a low stance and some nice alloy wheels.
Inside, the cabin is light, airy and spacious. Materials are of a good quality with few hard plastics in evidence. Seats are comfortable, there’s plenty of storage and adjustability.
The driver’s seat is comfortable, the instruments clear and easy to read and all the controls feel reassuringly solid.
There is plenty of head and legroom in both rows too. Trunk space is decent and the rear seats can fold down to offer more storage options.
Engine and mechanicals
The 2022 Kia K5 uses a 1.6-litre turbocharged engine to deliver 180 hp and 195 lb-ft of torque or a 2.5-litre turbo that delivers 290 hp and 311 lb-ft of torque.
Both use Kia’s slick eight speed automatic transmission.
As part of the 2022 improvement, the LXS and GT-Line trims have AWD as an option. The GT-Line, EX and GT get a 360-degree camera system, wireless chargers and navigation.
There’s a new Premium Package available for GT-Line models that adds a panoramic sunroof, LED projector headlights, heated steering wheel and driver-assist features like adaptive cruise control and Highway Driving Assist.

We like this car and while we might be biased, we think it’s an excellent alternative to the few sedans left on the market.
