The 2022 Kia EV6 Marks A New Era For The Brand

The 2022 Kia EV6 was showcased last week along with the F-150 Lightning. It’s a new electric crossover that has been designed completely to be electric. It’s Kia’s first purely electric car and it looks good!
We saw images of the 2022 Kia EV6 before at the Korean launch but this is the first time it has appeared in North America. It was shown off in Times Square, New York and it will be available next year.
“The EV6 marks a new and transformative era in Kia electrification,” said Sean Yoon, president & CEO of Kia North America and Kia America.
“This innovative crossover leverages the many benefits of its advanced platform to offer a level of technological excitement and convenience that will provide a superb ownership experience.”
2022 Kia EV6 design
The 2022 Kia EV6 has a very modern design that departs a fair amount from the main Kia range. It’s a very sleek, modern design with flowing lines, minor panel detailing and some nice touches.
The front end is low, with a very narrow grille, Kia logo and narrow lights with LED running lights around them. It’s an angular design, reminiscent of the new Cupra brand.
The rest of the profile looks impressive with nice alloys, a high waistline, curved door panels and detailed lower sill. A sloping roofline flows into a nice rear reminiscent of older TVR Cerbera with a distinct curve over the lights.
Inside is more conventional. A pair of screens dominates the front with a flattened steering wheel to match. Two tone upholstery was apparent in the showcase model and the overall impression was of soft materials nicely put together.
We won’t know until we get hands on though.
Engine and drivetrain
The 2022 Kia EV6 is a pure electric car with three options. A standard range RWD model will have a 58kWh lithium-ion battery pack and the equivalent of 167 hp or a 77.4 kWh battery pack for 218 hp. There will also be an AWD option with motors offering between 313 hp and 576 hp.
There will also be a GT version with the equivalent of 576 hp.
All models will have a 300 mile range.
The 2022 Kia EV6 also has a new dual charging system capable of 400v or 800v charging options. You could add 70 miles of range in as little as 5 minutes or 210 miles in 18 minutes with a compatible 350 kW charger.
Standard charging will full charge a drained battery in around 7 hours.
There is also a neat charging functionality where you could use the car to charge other cars like a recovery vehicle.
“Electricity flows from the high-energy battery to an Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU), providing 1,900 watts of power to electrical appliances, devices, tools and recreational equipment,”
The 2022 Kia EV6 launches in Korea at the end of this year and worldwide in 2022. Register your interest at Grimsby Kia, 435 South Service Road Grimsby, ON L3M 4E8.
