The 2022 Kia EV6 Shows a Bright Future for the Company

The 2022 Kia EV6 is a hotly anticipated vehicle from the Korean automaker. It’s a brand new all-electric sedan that showcases the future direction of the company. While one of many new EVs planned for release, this Kia looks to be one of the most exciting.

The 2022 Kia EV6 is built on the Hyundai E-GMP dedicated platform but is its own vehicle.

Electric drivetrain

The EV6 will be available in three trims and two drivetrains. Those two drivetrains include a 58kWh version and a 77.4kWh version. It’s the latter we’ll be getting here in Canada but the other will be available elsewhere.

The 77.4kWh drivetrain will provide up to 328 miles of range when fully charged. It uses an electric motor with the equivalent of 228 hp.

The EV6 GT-Line will use the same motor or dual motors on each axle for 370 hp but will drop range to 314 miles. This version will also get AWD thanks to those twin motors.

Charging will go from 10-80% in 18 minutes using an 800v fast charger. It will be compatible with lower voltage chargers but Kia hasn’t released any time figures for those.

Unusually, Kia has also enabled the ability to transfer power to elsewhere using a generator setup.

"Kia has developed an Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) which controls built-in bi-directional chargers, and the Vehicle Charging Management System (VCMS). The ICCU enables up to 3.6kW of power to be transferred from the vehicle battery to other devices.”

The automaker demonstrated this by powering the guitarists amp in a show put on by Fefe Dobson.

2022 Kia EV6

The design is spot on. Futuristic but still attainable, cutting edge without alienating certain audiences. It’s sleek, slightly Knight Rider-ish in black and has the right blend of accessibility and modernity.

The design uses a low front end with minimal grille, angled LED lighting and a flowing hood. A steeply raked windshield adds an aero look while at the rear, a flowing design crosses the entire width along with some more LED lights.

Inside, the dashboard is very futuristic with a single wide screen with individual clusters for instruments and other controls. A centre console has some controls while others are on the steering wheel and on the screens.

The EV6 will come with heads up display, augmented reality overlay and other digital goodness.

If any car will help convince Canadians that electric is the future, this is one of them. The 2022 Kia EV6 has enough range for most journeys. It looks good enough to grace the driveway of any of us and has the practicality along with the futuristic design to appeal to the widest possible audience.

We think it looks amazing!
