2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee Finally Revealed

2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee Finally Revealed

The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee was revealed last week. Alongside the 80th anniversary of Jeep, the automaker is celebrating what it says is the most advanced model it has released to date.

The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee comes with a standard gas engine or as a 4xe PHEV variant. The 4xe isn’t available just yet but we saw it in action in a teaser video.

It looks largely the same as the other new designs, which means pretty good.

The new design is instantly familiar as not much has changed. New lights and a revised grille do tell you this is new, but the overall shape, size and appearance of the Grand Cherokee should be reassuring to current fans.

From the side and rear, there’s a definite element of Land Rover Discovery about the design. A high ride height, distinct wheel arches, the way the pillars are configured and the roof design.

At the back, a single bar runs across the rear with lights either side. Some upward-tilting bodywork keeps things interesting along with a rear screen.

Overall, it’s a mature look that seems to be of the time.

Interior of the Cherokee

The Grand Cherokee has always been a comfortable place to spend time and this version is no different. All variants of the SUV have comfortable seating with adjustable front seats, two or three rows and plenty of space.

There is a 10.1” touchscreen for instruments and entertainment and an optional 10” heads-up display. The front passenger can also have an optional 10.25” screen if required.

You also get the option for rear seat screens, Palermo leather upholstery (Summit Reserve) and a 950-watt, 19-speaker McIntosh audio.

Engine and options

There will be three powertrain options for the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The 3.6-litre Pentastar V6 engine is, of course, present. Then there’s a 5.7-litre V8 that delivers 357 hp and 390 lb-ft of torque.

Then there’s the 4xe. A 2.0-litre turbocharged four cylinder with electric motor to deliver 375 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque. It uses a 17kWh battery pack to deliver up to 25 miles all-electric drive.

There will be a two row and a three row Grand Cherokee. There will also be Laredo, Altitude, Limited, Overland, Trailhawk, Summit and Summit Reserve trims.

The 4xe variant will be available on Limited, Trailhawk, Overland, Summit and Summit Reserve trims.

The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee will come with active braking and pedestrian/cyclist detection, rear cross-path detection, adaptive cruise control, active lane management, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, advanced brake assist, blind-spot monitoring, and parking sensors.

A night vision camera system, intersection collision assist and drowsy driver detection will be optional extras.

The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee will be available towards the end of this year with the 4xe model following early next year.
