2022 Ford E-Transit teased before reveal

2022 Ford E-Transit teased before reveal

The electric Transit has been on the cards for seemingly forever. Placed as part of the Ford electrification roadmap, the van was always going to be front and centre of any commercial drive towards electrification. And now it’s almost ready for launch as this teaser for the 2022 Ford E-Transit shows.

The Ford Transit is the best-selling van in the world. It’s also a huge earner for the company so any change, update or new model has to be very carefully considered before launch.

We imagine that’s the case here as the original concept was showcased over a decade ago. We have heard hints since then of course, but this is the first time we have had something concrete.

This teaser is just two weeks ahead of the official reveal but doesn’t show much. It’s a shadowy outline of the van that slowly slides into view. It’s not the most illustrative teaser ever but that’s the point I guess.

What is more important is that potentially millions of gas and diesel transit vans will eventually evolve into zero emission electrics. It will take a while but the world will be a much better place for it!

2020 Ford Transit

The 2020 Ford Transit is one of the most driveable vans on the market. With almost car-like handling, a huge range of options and the ability to specify your van with almost any conceivable configuration, it’s a truly flexible vehicle.

The design is about as good as a van can get. A simple front end with small sloped hood, modest grille and huge windshield. The rest of the van is for cargo. With some panel detailing down each flank in the panel van version, there is little to dislike about the Transit.

Inside, the Transit feels a little like an Explorer and can be as basic or as luxurious as you like. Visibility is superb, the driver’s seat is very supportive, the cabin is very well put-together and has as many options as the rest of the van.

Under the hood

The 2020 Ford Transit is driven by three engine options. A 3.5-litre gas V6 that produces 275 hp and 262 lb-ft of torque, a 3.5-litre turbocharged V6 with 310 hp and 410 lb-ft of torque and a 2.0-litre turbodiesel four cylinder.

All use Ford’s 10 speed automatic transmission to send power to the rear or all wheels.

The Transit comes with forward-collision warning with automated emergency braking, lane-keeping assistance and lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control and other safety tech too.

The full reveal of the 2022 Ford E-Transit is on 16 November.
