2021 Ram TRX is coming soon

2021 Ram TRX is coming soon

This week seems like the week of the truck. First Ford reveals the 2021 Ford F-150. Then it hints the 2021 F-150 Raptor and now Ram hints the 2021 Ram TRX. The Raptor has had the market all to itself for far too long and now Ram is bringing the fight to Ford’s doorstep with the TRX.

Unlike the Ford F-150, Ram has yet to unveil the 2021 Ram TRX. It has that scheduled for ‘late summer 2020’ according to teaser images doing the rounds.

So what do we know? Do we know more than before?

2021 Ram TRX

FCA presented a roadmap of upcoming vehicles earlier this year and a TRX model was mentioned for 2022. This seems to have been accelerated. Talk is now more about a 2021 release with a demo vehicle having been due to show this year. While the auto show season isn’t happening, an online reveal is now on the cards.

When I covered the TRX before, we didn’t know whether it was rumour or whether it is really happening. Now we know the TRX is really happening as FCA have confirmed it.

That’s all they have confirmed though. The rest is pure speculation and rumour.

This is the teaser video FCA has shared on Facebook:

We have seen the spy shots, heard the rumours and have now watched the teaser video. I think we are beginning to have a pretty good idea of what to expect from the new Ram truck.

Hellcat power

The biggest news of course is the Hellcat V8 engine. No V6 here. We get the full fat, 707 hp and 645 lb-ft of torque in the Trackhawk. We are expecting the full power of the Hellcat engine too. No detuned or dumbed down motor for this TRX!

We would also expect AWD, locking differential, off-road specific suspension and running gear and a tuned transmission. While a manual would be awesome, we expect Ram to use its accomplished 8 speed automatic, although that it unconfirmed.

There may be lower power variants with a Hemi or even a V6 but this is pure speculation right now. All the noise is around the full TRX model which we know with a fair amount of certainty will come with the Hellcat motor.

The Ram TRX has a lot to live up to. Not only has the Raptor had the market largely to itself, the standard 1500 it is based on also has a reputation to maintain. Combining performance and drivability on a platform as well-known as the 1500, albeit as a new vehicle, is a tricky proposition and something Ram are probably still working hard to perfect.

With summer only just beginning, we have a little way to go before we know exactly what’s in store in the new Ram truck. Whatever happens, if it does come with the Hellcat engine, it’s going to be good!
