2021 Mazda CX-9: A Quick Overview

2021 Mazda CX-9: A Quick Overview

Details of the new 2021 Mazda CX-9 have been revealed. The new model remains largely the same but gets a larger infotainment screen and a new trim level. That, alongside the elegant design, fantastic cabins and great colour choices means there is even more reason to try this new Mazda!

The 2021 Mazda CX-9 is a great looking crossover that handles as good as it looks. With the familiar Mazda design, great colour schemes and great road manners, the CX-9 is a must-try for anyone in the market for a new car.

The good news is that customers of the new version will get a new 10.3 inch screen instead of the old 7 or 9 inch screens. It will run Mazda Connect infotainment and be compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It also has a WiFi hotspot and the remote control and monitoring options that come with Mazda Connect.

If you’re looking for something different and the CX-5, CX-7 and Mazda6 Carbon Editions we reported last week piqued your interest, you’ll be pleased to know there’s a new Carbon Edition trim for the CX-9 now too.

That Carbon Edition comes complete with the lovely Polymetal Gray colour, black mirrors, black 20 inch alloy wheels, black trim and interior trim elements that make up the new look.

CX-9 crossover

The design of the 2021 Mazda CX-9 remains unchanged from the very attractive profile we know already. It’s a very sleek design that looks fast even though this is a crossover. The aero look is typical of modern Mazda designs and has gone down very well indeed.

The low front end with curved hood and angled lights looks the business. A raked windshield and mildly curved roof adds to that aero look without compromising headroom in back. A set of very nice alloys and a range of simply stunning colours completes the look.

Inside, the CX-9 is light, comfortable and a little luxurious. Seating is supportive, adjustable and very comfortable without being too soft. The driving position is ideal with great visibility, easy access to all controls and a set of clear instruments. It’s a very well thought out cabin.

Under the hood is a turbocharged 2.5-litre engine that produces 227 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque. That rises to 250 hp and 320 lb-ft with premium gas. The engine uses a six speed automatic transmission to send drive to the front wheels.

The 2021 Mazda CX-9 may be an outlier compared to the main brands but that works in its favour. There are fewer of them on the road, prices are competitive and the driving dynamics of Mazda are unquestionable.
