2021 Lincoln Nautilus

2021 Lincoln Nautilus

We got to see a 2021 Lincoln Nautilus up close the other day. It isn’t often we catch one in the dealership as they seem to disappear as soon as they arrive. I thought it was high time I took a good look around the little Lincoln before it was hygienically cleaned and prepared for collection.

The Lincoln Nautilus has had something of an interior update. It looks better than ever and is more comfortable than ever too.

I have something of a soft spot for the Nautilus. It was the first vehicle Lincoln released after they realized the whole MKT, MKZ naming convention didn’t work. It’s an attractive SUV designed to offer more than rivals without shouting too loudly about it.

Lincoln Nautilus design

The design is actually understated for Lincoln. It has a rounded shape with elegant front end, big grille, nice lighting and a hint of Rolls Royce about the fascia. It rides high so has good ground clearance, topped off by a set of large alloy wheels.

The rest of the shape is smooth and unfussy. Simple lines, modest panel detailing down the side and a modest waistline over the rear wheels. A slight overhang from the roof provides a modest rooftop spoiler that punches way above its weight.

At the back, the light bar and upward tilting rear valance completes the look.

Inside the Nautilus

Inside the 2021 Lincoln Nautilus is exactly how you would expect it to be. Comfortable with plenty of soft touch materials and understated luxury.

There is a lot of space inside, with plenty of leg and head room and cargo space at the back.

The driving position is supremely comfortable, with adjustable seating, good positioning, a comfortable steering wheel and some nice instruments and a center screen. That screen is part of this year’s update as it’s the new 12.3 inch Sync 4 infotainment touchscreen.

There is lots of storage, some very comfortable leather, quality trim elements and an overall feeling of luxury and quality.

You also get an 11 speaker audio system as standard which can be upgraded to a Harmon Kardon system if required.

Engine and drivetrain

The 2021 Lincoln Nautilus has two engine options. The first is a 2.0-litre four cylinder engine that produces 250 hp and 280 lb-ft of torque. The second is a 2.7-litre V6 that produces 335 hp and 380 lb-ft of torque.

Both use an eight speed automatic transmission to power the front or all wheels.

The engines are smooth and quiet and deliver plenty enough power to keep your motoring.

The 2021 Lincoln Nautilus also comes with Lincoln Co-Pilot360 safety tech that includes forward collision warning with automatic braking and pedestrian detection, lane departure warning and lane-keeping assist.

I didn’t get to drive the Nautilus as it was a customer car but feedback we have on it is that it’s an excellent drive with smooth acceleration and a quiet cabin. This is no performance SUV but that’s not the intent. It’s all about ‘quiet comfort’ and in that, the 2021 Lincoln Nautilus really delivers!
