2021 Lincoln Nautilus Awarded Top Safety Pick by US IIHS

2021 Lincoln Nautilus Awarded Top Safety Pick by US IIHS

The 2021 Lincoln Nautilus was awarded Top Safety Pick last week by the US IIHS thanks to some new headlights. A new set of LED projector headlights, which are new this year reduces glare significantly, which helped this modest Lincoln achieve the new safety score.

Headlights contributing to safety scores is a relatively new thing but it makes sense. If you have ever been on the road while someone with too-bright headlights drove towards you, or was using high beam instead of dipped, you know how annoying, and dangerous it can be.

The new lights, available in Reserve and Black Label models change all that.

Hopefully, the new lights will trickle down Standard trim too at some point.

2021 Lincoln Nautilus

The 2021 Lincoln Nautilus is a midsize SUV based around the Ford Edge but is different in almost every way.

It’s a smooth looking design with rounded edges, a tidy front end with modest grille, panel detailing throughout, chrome accents, raked windshield, curved roof and an equally tidy rear.

Inside, the Nautilus uses high quality materials throughout. It is well put together, has comfortable seats in both rows, a new dashboard layout, wood or chrome trim around the cabin and lots of adjustments everywhere.

It’s a well specified cabin whichever trim you buy, which is exactly what you expect from a Lincoln.

Engine and drivetrain

The 2021 Lincoln Nautilus uses either a 2.0-litre turbocharged four cylinder engine that produces 250 hp and 280 lb-ft of torque or a 2.7-litre twin turbo V6 that produces 335 hp and 380 lb-ft of torque.

Both use an 8 speed automatic transmission that sends the power to the front or all wheels.

Both engines are quiet and refine and deliver decent performance given this is an SUV!

Suspension is comfortable, steering is smooth and handling is both plush and responsive and balances the needs of both very well.

The Nautilus comes in Standard, Reserve, and Black Label trims. The Standard comes with faux leather interior, power adjustable front seats, heated front seats, a new 12.3 inch digital instrument cluster, 13.2 inch touchscreen, LED headlights, power liftgate and 18 inch wheels.

Reserve and Black Label trims add every comfort and technology you can squeeze into a car and get away with, including heated steering wheel, wireless phone charging, Revel audio, panoramic sunroof, choice of leather colours and a whole lot more.

The US NHTSA gives the 2021 Lincoln Nautilus a five star safety rating and the IIHS now gives it Top Safety Pick. That makes for a safe car that comes with automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitors, and active lane control standard.

You can opt to add  surround-view-camera system, adaptive cruise control, steering assist and automatic parking if you like.

The 2021 Lincoln Nautilus is an excellent SUV if you don’t want to go large. It’s roomy inside, easy to drive and sensibly priced. It’s also now safer than ever!
