Taking a Look at the 2021 Lincoln Corsair Grand Touring

We got to see a 2021 Lincoln Corsair Grand Touring up close over Christmas and we thought it’s about time we gave the new Lincoln PHEV some attention.

The Corsair is a plugin-hybrid with a 2.5-litre engine and a 14.4 kWh battery pack that’s good for up to 28 miles. It’s one more PHEV to consider if you’re in the market for a new family car.

We would definitely recommend checking it out though!

Corsair design

The design of the 2021 Lincoln Corsair Grand Touring is familiar for the big brand. A signature front end with Lincoln grille, angled lights at each side, a modest lower sill and low hood.

Despite being an SUV with plenty of room, it doesn’t look or feel imposing like some. That’s a mark in its favour as far as we’re concerned.

The rest of the profile is standard SUV. Simple panel detailing, angled windshield, curved room and level beltline. It’s an attractive profile that should please most buyers.

Inside, the cabin is also exactly what you would expect from Lincoln. Also in a good way.

It’s spacious, well appointed, well-built and fully equipped. The leather is soft, seats supportive and comfortable, there are few rattles and cabin noises and you can have all the toys you could ever wish for.

The front seats have 24-way adjustment to provide that perfect position we all crave. There’s also a touchscreen, 12.3 inch digital instruments, Phone As A Key and premium audio.

Under the hood

Under the hood of the 2021 Lincoln Corsair Grand Touring is a 2.5-litre engine that combined with a pair of electric motors and a 14.4 kWh battery pack to deliver 266 hp.

There’s a motor on each axle to help deliver instant power through an eCVT transmission.

Fortunately, unlike many CVTs, this one is actually good. Lincoln have done an excellent job at tuning it so power delivery is constant throughout the range without leaving you wanting more.

The batterie can drive the Corsair for up to 28 miles while the overall package is rated in the US at 78 MPG.

All Corsairs come standard with automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, automatic high beams and lane-keep assist.

You also have the option to add Co-Pilot 360 Plus that adds full-speed adaptive cruise control, traffic sign recognition, evasive steering assist and automatic parallel parking.

The driving experience is a good one. It may be a younger Lincoln sibling but it doesn’t leave you wanting in road holding, comfort, stability or the driving experience.

For an SUV, it drives well, is nimble and handles twisty roads well. It’s also composed on the highway and easy to park. That’s especially true if you opt for self parking!
