A Quick Review of The 2021 Kia Stonic GT

A Quick Review of The 2021 Kia Stonic GT

The Kia Stonic is a European crossover that we have been asking to have here in Canada for a while. The small Kia has a big personality and continues the characterful appearance of the Soul. A new, smarter Stonic has been launched called the 2021 Kia Stonic GT Line and we want one.

The vast majority of Europe-only cars we see can stay there. Only occasionally do we see a car that we don’t get here that we would really like. The 2021 Kia Stonic GT Line is one of them.

It doesn’t do or offer anything other models don’t. It just adds a unique personality to a small car that would work well in Canada.

Kia GT Line

The Kia Stonic GT Line takes the standard car and adds some visual upgrades. There is nothing under the skin here, but what the GT Line adds, looks great.

The GT Line comes with a unique front grille, new air intakes, new rear bumper, new silver undertray and new contrast colour trim. That contrast colour is for the roof, rooftip spoiler and front air intakes. It is yellow in the image but there is a black option too.

Inside, there are some upholstery tweaks, GT Line badging and a new leather steering wheel.

It’s purely a cosmetic upgrade but the coloured roof and trim make a real statement!

Kia Stonic

The Kia Stonic is smaller than the Seltos and makes a great city car. It’s light, nippy and large enough for a family of four. It also has Kia’s signature build quality and character, which is why we like it so much.

It comes with a range of little engines, 1.0-litre petrol and diesel engines and a MHEV version with a gas engine and electric motor. It also uses a very cool clutch-by-wire system and a mix of six speed manual and seven speed automatic transmissions.

Despite its modest size, the Stonic gets a ton of safety tech including autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control with lane follow assist, blind-spot assist with rear cross-traffic assists and Level 2 autonomous features with radar and cameras.

Kia’s new Rear Occupant Alert system that alerts you if you left someone in the car will also be available.

We appreciate that smaller cars don’t always go down well here in Canada but there is as much a case for the Stonic as there is for the Soul, Mini or any other small car. They are great for city living or short commutes, cheap to buy and run and are usually relatively good with emissions.

If they also have a cool character like the 2021 Kia Stonic GT Line, all the better!
