2021 Kia Sorento revealed

2021 Kia Sorento revealed

Kia has revealed full details on the 2021 Sorento a couple of weeks before its official debut at the Geneva Motor Show. It seems Kia couldn’t hold onto their excitement and have spilled the beans and shared some official images of the new SUV.

The Kia Sorento is a good seller for the automaker and one of the models that turned Kia from boring econobox manufacturer into a dynamic automaker with fantastic design and driving characteristics. It’s also a volume model for the company so any changes made to the platform have to be good ones.

2021 Kia Sorento design

The Sorento is a handsome beast and always has been. It has always been a modern SUV, ever since Peter Schreyer joined the company during its transformation. This new model keeps the character similar while offering a newer, more modern look.

While completely its own vehicle, this new Sorento has something of the Skoda Kodiaq about it. Definitely around the new tiger nose anyway. Some of the original softness has gone and the overall profile is more angular, with sharper edges, more panel detailing and a more mature look overall. The new hood detailing is particularly good I think.

At the rear, some new vertical taillights make for interesting viewing while a pair of tailpipes with neat trim detailing around them look pretty good too. The rear is much more angular than the front but I think it should perform well.

Going inside

Inside, the 2021 Kia Sorento is a mix of heritage and modernity. The tan leather in the promo shots harks back to the 1970s, especially with that diamond pattern in the seats. The rest of the cabin looks to have been upgraded with a very tidy dashboard and centre stack.

The dashboard is digital, a 12.3 inch programmable unit that will provide all the information you’re likely to need. The centre screen is also large at 10.3 inches and all digital from which you can control navigation, music and the usual toys.

While Kia has been willing to show us what the 2021 Kia Sorento will look like, they haven’t said much about what it will drive like. No news on engines, drivetrain options, changes to suspension or chassis, any new safety tech or any extra technology. That is being kept for nearer Geneva I expect.

As the Geneva Motor Show starts on March 5 2020, we don’t have that long to wait. If you can’t wait that long visit Georgetown Kia, 199 and 314 Guelph Street, Georgetown, Ontario. They have the entire range of current Kia to choose from.
