The 2021 Kia Seltos was another vehicle that caught my attention at the Los Angeles Auto Show. Like the Mazda CX-30 I mentioned yesterday, this is another crossover designed to slot between other crossovers. This time, the Seltos is to sit between the Kia Soul and Sportage in the automaker’s lineup. Having been released in other regions already, Kia has said the Seltos will be arriving in North America as a 2021 model. It will go on sale during the first quarter of 2020.
The 2021 Kia Seltos is all Kia. It’s more a crossover than the Soul but smaller than the Sportage so the positioning is logical. It looks like a crossover with a wide stance, Kia tiger nose up front, integrated lights, LED running lights, a bash plate underneath and a smooth profile down each side.
A rising beltline arcing up at the quarterlight is a neat touch and looks good. From a distance, the 2021 Kia Seltos looks a bit like a smaller Mitsubishi at the rear and a new Peugeot crossover at the front yet manages to be completely its own vehicle. With decent ride height and chrome roof rails, the crossover DNS is firmly rooted in this new car.
Inside the 2021 Kia Seltos, you know it’s a new Kia. The interior is very slick with quality materials, excellent finishing, no rattles or noises, a very tidy dashboard and comfortable seating. The LED instrument panel looks superb while a large 10.25 inch infotainment screen was on the demonstrator. Presumably smaller screens will be available at launch.

Under the hood of the 2021 Kia Seltos is either a 1.6-litre turbocharged four cylinder or a 2.0-litre NA four cylinder. There was no talk about power at the show but we expect the motors to be on par with others in the Kia range, 176 hp and 195 lb-ft for the turbo and 146 hp and 132 lb-ft of torque for the 2.0-litre. Both will use a CVT or dual clutch automatic to drive the front or all wheels.
The new Seltos will have the option for Kia's Drive Wise safety technology. That can include blind-spot monitoring, blind-spot collision avoidance, driver attention warning, lane-keeping assist, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, highway follow assist, rear occupant alert, safe exit assist and adaptive cruise control.
The 2021 Kia Seltos is expected at the beginning of 2020. Canadian pricing wasn’t mentioned but Kia said to expect a starting price of approximately $22,000 USD.
