Jeep Wrangler 392 in Canada: A Closer Look

It seems many automakers are using the last gasps of the gasoline engine to shoehorn ever larger motors into everyday cars. This example of the 2021 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392 is a case in point. An already capable Jeep has been given the V8 treatment and it looks good!
The 2021 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392 is a 470 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque Wrangler designed to go where other performance cars cannot go.
It takes the already very capable Rubicon model and turns it up a notch.
Rubicon design
The 2021 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392 looks very much like a Wrangler. It has the familiar front end with vertical grille, rounded lights, high ride height, curved hood and flared fenders.
It’s as boxy as ever, but in a good way. That box protects a comfortable cabin and provides four doors and room in back for gear.
The interior is as spartan as ever but as well built as always. It’s not luxurious by any standard but it uses high quality materials and is put together well. No rattles or creaks can be heard whatever angle you might be in at the time.
Seating is comfortable, the bolsters up front keep you in place and the driving position has great visibility all round.
Overhangs are short, the suspension is as capable as you would expect and off road 285/70R17 BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 tires means the Rubicon is definitely more at home on the rough stuff than on tarmac.
Engine and drivetrain
This is the first V8 Wrangler that we know of. It has more torque than the diesel and more power than any other Wrangler. The way the power is delivered is composed and predictable, which is essential when off road.
With permanent 4x4 and Off-Road+ and the usual low speed control you would expect, driving over the rough is fun without being scary, even with that V8 burble under your right foot.
This is a big SUV, far from the barebones Jeeps of yesteryear but this V8 engine delivers enough predictable power to handle the heft. The Fox shocks keep you firmly planted on whatever surface you may be driving on at the time.
While capable on road, the 2021 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392 isn’t a city car. Those off road tires are noisy on tarmac and don’t let the Wrangler completely relax on the road.
Get it off road however and its true potential is revealed!
We think the 2021 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392 is a solid addition to the lineup and something Wrangler should definitely offer before everything becomes electric. If you feel like some V8 fun in a Jeep, now’s your chance!
