2021 Jeep Renegade may be getting four new editions

Jeep is planning a busy 2021 with new Wranglers, new Wagoneer, possibly a new Grand Cherokee and perhaps four new editions of the Renegade. That last is the news working its way around the internet right now anyway.

Nobody talks much about the Jeep Renegade. I think that’s a shame as it’s a great little car. It may not have the profile of the Wrangler but it can be just as much fun to drive. Now people are talking about it and the rumour that it may be getting four new special editions next year.

Those specials are thought to be the Jeepster, Freedom, Islander and 80th Anniversary Edition.

As usual, we have a forum to thank for this rumour. Someone over at Wagoneer Fans posted a VIN decoder readout somehow accessed from the US NHTSA. The leak refers specifically to the Freedom, Jeepster and Islander.

The 80th Anniversary Edition is also thought to be joining these three releases. Apparently, all Jeep models will be receiving 80th Anniversary Editions to celebrate the brand’s anniversary next year.

2020 Jeep Renegade

The Jeep Renegade is like a Wrangler lite. It has the look and feel of the Wrangler but is a more playful vehicle. It doesn’t have the extreme off road ability of the bigger Jeep but it can easily handle rough roads. It is pretty good on smooth road too.

The look and feel of the Renegade is light hearted. Rounded edges, rounded lights, the Jeep signature grille, high ride height and some fun colours all combine to create a vehicle that doesn’t take itself too seriously.

Inside, the cabin is light and airy with supportive front seating. Adults can sit in back with cargo room at the very rear but it doesn’t have the legroom for the taller among you. The cabin quality is great though, with high quality materials, plenty of storage and the practicality of wipe down surfaces.

There are two engine options in the 2020 Jeep Renegade, a 1.3-litre turbo four with 177 hp and 210 lb-ft of torque or a 2.4-litre four with 180 hp and 175 lb-ft of torque. Both use a nine speed automatic transmission to drive the front wheels. AWD is an option on the Trailhawk trim.

2020 Jeep Renegade has optional safety tech including automatic emergency braking with forward-collision warnings, active lane control, front and rear parking sensors, automatic high beam headlights and blind-spot monitors with rear cross-traffic alerts.

The 2020 Jeep Renegade is a fun little car that can still handle the rough stuff. With a high ride height, low overhangs and a Trailhawk version, there is little not to like.
