Nobody could have predicted how popular the Ford Ranger would be. It has been a global model for years but never really took off elsewhere like it has in North America. Ford are planning to build on that with the 2021 Ford Ranger Tremor.
The Tremor is to the Ranger what the Raptor is to the F-150, just without the engine boost.
“Tremor gives Ranger customers a new level of off-road confidence and fun,” said Chad Callander, Ford Ranger marketing manager. “With increased ground clearance, off-road tuned suspension and aggressive Continental General Grabber tires, Tremor elevates Ranger’s off-roading capability even further while keeping the unique advantages that come with a cargo box for hauling gear anywhere.”
The 2021 Ford Ranger Tremor is an off road specialist. It brings lifted suspension with Fox dampers, redesigned mechanicals and new 17 inch wheels with 32 inch Continental tires. This makes the Tremor stand an inch higher than the standard 4x4 version.
Those Fox dampers have hydraulic rebound and rear reservoirs and new springs. They will be tuned to deliver comfortable road manners while being able to handle the rough stuff. The anti-roll bars will also be redesigned to compensate.
These changes deliver a 6.5-inch improvement in front-suspension travel and 8.1 inches in the rear. Ideal for off roading.
The 2021 Ford Ranger Tremor also gets a new front bash plate, underbody protection plates, rear locking differential, Ford’s Terrain Management System with four distinct drive modes and Trail Control.
There is also the option for extra graphics, a winch, air compressor, extra lights and other goodies thanks to an auxiliary power bank with spare connections.
The driving modes have been customized to ensure adequate handling on the road and superior traction on gravel and loose surfaces. This is because Ford was determined to add off road ability without taking away everyday practicality.
“Ranger Tremor can be your daily driver during the week then transform into your off-road adventure vehicle come Saturday morning,” said Todd Eckert, Ford truck group marketing manager.
“With its added off-road capability combined with the six-switch auxiliary bank and more than 200 Ranger-specific dealer-installed available accessories, Ranger Tremor is a very capable overlanding rig.”
The Ford Ranger has gone down exceptionally well. Few knew there was such an appetite for a smaller truck but the Ranger proved there was. I suspect the 2021 Ford Ranger Tremor is going to be just as popular, if not more so!
