2021 Ford F-150 production slated to begin in September

2021 Ford F-150 production slated to begin in September

Leaks out of Ford have hinted that plans for production of the next generation 2021 Ford F-150 truck are being planned for 28 September 2020. As long as the COVID-19 situation doesn’t seriously deteriorate, the order books for the new truck should open 15 June. This has yet to be confirmed but is great news if true!

We have a good idea of what to expect with the 2021 Ford F-150 as there have been a fair few leaks over the past few months. There have been a few spy shots floating around the internet too so we have a decent idea of what’s coming even if there has been no confirmation as yet.

2021 Ford F-150 design

As far as we know, the exterior of the truck will remain largely the same. We think there will be minor revisions at the front, perhaps with slightly modified lighting and a new grille. There may be revisions to the taillights too.

The rest of the exterior will likely remain similar to what we have now. The design works, the dimensions work, so why mess with it?

It’s the cabin where we are likely to see the biggest changes. Ford said they intended increasing the pressure on Ram’s 1500 and that means improving the interior. Expect to see higher quality materials, more soft touch surfaces, higher spec interior trim and more options for technology.

There have been rumours of a huge 15.5” touchscreen for the interior designed to one-up Ram’s 12” screen. The spy shots we saw of the F-150 interior hinted at a large screen but we’re not sure what size. Whatever screen appears, it will be running the new Ford SYNC 4 system.

2021 Ford F-150 engine and mechanicals

Under the skin we expect to find the same engines as we have now. The entire range works well, the 10 speed transmission is superb and there is no need to change such a winning combination.

We do expect to see that hybrid engine Ford has been promising us though. Whether that’s at launch or later on remains to be seen, but it is coming. That hybrid motor will include the generator rig to power tools, compressors and other goodies like the Toyota Landcruiser had.

The pure electric F-150 is still on the cards but that won’t be ready for launch.

The 2021 Ford F-150 should be an incremental update to the current model. As the current truck delivers so much and has so little wrong with it, we see no reason why Ford wouldn’t want to build on that by keeping what works and upgrading what it wants to improve on.

As long as coronavirus doesn’t get worse, we should begin to see and hear a little more about the new Ford truck over the next couple of months. That’s especially likely if the rumour about the order books opening in June are true!
