2021 Ford F-150 keeping the V8 due to popular demand

2021 Ford F-150 keeping the V8 due to popular demand

The 2021 Ford F-150 is just about ready and we are anxiously awaiting the first of the new Ford trucks to roll into the dealership. Aside from the imminent arrival, one piece of news that will delight some truck fans is the news that the V8 engine has a stay of execution.

There were thoughts that the V8 engine wouldn’t continue for this model year as the drive for efficiency continues. Ford had hinted that the Coyote V8 would remain but rumours were everywhere that it would be discontinued for the F-150.

No so.

Ford has said the V8 engine will continue in the 14th generation of their iconic truck.

2021 Ford F-150

The 2021 Ford F-150 is an evolutionary update that changes a lot of little things rather than a few big things. That is until the F-150 EV arrives anyway.

The exterior gets a few modest upgrades in the lights, grille, running boards, lower sill and tailgate. A neat new ruler and some cut outs to help saw lumber appear inside the tailgate to help contractors. It’s a small thing that just shows how much thought goes into creating these trucks.

Inside, you can specify your 2021 Ford F-150 to be basic and workmanlike or luxurious and leatherlike. There are more features than ever before including lots of safety tech, a reversing camera, touchscreen options and a whole lot more.

You can choose an 8 or 12 inch touchscreen with Ford Sync4, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and Ford Pass. The unit will also support OTA (Over the Air) updates.

You can also get Ford’s Co-Pilot360 driver assistance. It includes forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, blind-spot detection and active cruise control.

This truck will also support Active Drive Assist, Ford’s autonomous technology. It won’t be available for launch but when it’s ready sometime next year, this truck should work with it. Hardware will be installed at manufacture and then enabled once the technology is fully ready.

Under the hood

Most people interested in the 2021 Ford F-150 will be pleased to know the range of reliable engines remains largely untouched.

You can still get the 3.3-litre V6, the 2.7-litre EcoBoost V6, the 3.5-litre EcoBoost, the 5.0-litre V8 and the 3.0-litre PowerStroke diesel. The new 3.5-litre Powerboost hybrid will also make an entrance with its 430 hp and 570 lb-ft of torque.

The F-150 electric will arrive sometime late next year as long as development continues at its current rate.

There’s a lot to like about the 2021 Ford F-150. It’s the same but different. As much as now, but also more and little touches throughout the truck can make life much easier if you use your truck for work.

Keep an eye on Northway Ford Lincoln, 388 King George Road Brantford ON N3S 3N2 for its arrival.
