2021 Ford Bronco Sport revealed

2021 Ford Bronco Sport revealed

The other model in the pair of SUVs from Ford was also unveiled last week, the 2021 Ford Bronco Sport. The four door SUV is less off road oriented than the Bronco but still packs a punch.

The 2021 Ford Bronco Sport is a different version of the Bronco designed to take on the Jeep Cherokee. It’s a less rugged SUV based on a Ford designed for a completely different purpose than the Bronco.

The intent with the Sport is to offer a more comfortable and less rugged SUV designed for those who want to spend more time on tarmac with the freedom to off road if they need to. Whereas the Bronco is the other way round.

Bronco Sport

The design of the 2021 Ford Bronco Sport is similar to the Bronco with a boxy design, minimal panel detailing, a unique front end with round lights, more upright windshield and flat roof. The Bronco Sport is only available as a four door so is longer than some Bronco models.

In profile the Bronco Sport looks a little like a newer Range Rover Discovery with a high waist at the rear quarterlight and distinctive roof rails. The rear has an upswing door with pair of lights at either side for easy access.

Inside, it is slightly more luxurious than the Bronco with more leather options and home comforts. There are still those practicalities though like cup holders, tool cubbies and the ability to fold down the rear seats flat to fit two mountain bikes upright.

Under the hood

The 2021 Ford Bronco Sport will use either a 1.5-litre turbocharged three cylinder engine that makes 181 hp and 190 lb-ft of torque or a 2.0-litre four cylinder that makes 245 hp and 275 lb-ft of torque. Both engines use the same eight speed automatic transmission.

Both engines come with AWD and the Ford G.O.A.T. driving system (Goes Over Any Terrain). Those driving modes include Normal, Eco, Sport, Slippery and Sand modes. Mud/Ruts and Rock Crawl modes will feature on a couple of trims.

Talking of trims, the 2021 Ford Bronco Sport will come in Big Bend, Outer Banks, Badlands and First Edition trims. Off road ability increases as you climb the trim levels, as will features.

The 2021 Ford Bronco Sport will feature automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, active lane control, blind-spot monitors with rear cross-traffic alerts and automatic high beams either as part of the package or as optional extras.

The 2021 Ford Bronco Sport may have a different target audience but it has a similar appeal. It’s a great design with some lovely touches and practicality to match. I think this version is going to be just as popular as the Bronco, if not more so!
