2021 Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat

2021 Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat

Yes, you did read that correctly. The big Dodge SUV is getting the Hellcat treatment. After months of speculation and hope, FCA have finally confirmed that the Durango will be getting the big ‘cat engine. They also seemed to have confirmed that the 2021 Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat will be unveiled at the New York Auto Show this year.

We have speculated for ages and fully expected the Durango to go Hellcat and here it is. A surprise to nobody and more people are likely looking forward to this model than they would admit. If the SRT wasn’t SUV enough, the Durango Hellcat should be!

While tenuous, this video is a mix of ad for Fast 9 and for Dodge featuring a soundtrack from AC/DC and a voiceover from Vin Diesel. It is also full of Challenger Hellcats doing tricks and something else. Partway through the video you should see a Durango with what looks like a Hellcat badge on the fender. It’s just a glimpse but it’s there at around 20 seconds in.

Durango Hellcat

Everyone who has anything to do with cars has expected this since the Challenger Hellcat was first shown. The Durango has already proved its mettle with the SRT and a Hellcat engine was a literal shoe-in. It has taken longer than anyone anticipated to bring it to market but we will finally get some 2021 Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat goodness this year.

The Durango will be getting the 6.2-litre supercharged V8 that generates 707 hp. It will use the Dodge 8 speed automatic transmission to send power to all four wheels. There is also likely to be an electronic limited slip differential to help control power, much larger brakes with six piston calipers, vented rotors, different driving modes like the Challenger and probably a lot more besides.

It is also likely that owners will get the neat red and black keys you get with the Challenger. The black key for everyday use and the red key for when you want to unleash all 707 hp from that big motor.

The Durango SRT has proven that there is an appetite for performance SUVs even if the term is a little contradictory. The impressive sales of the Challenger Hellcat and hype it has generated proves there is still an appetite for V8 engines even during this time of zero emissions and electric motors. The two should combine very effectively to deliver a solid SUV that smokes the competition.

The 2021 Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat is expected to show at the New York Auto Show this year so we don’t have long to wait. In the meantime, visit Unique Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram, 915 Walkers Line, Burlington, ON L7N 3V8 for all your Dodge needs.
