2021 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Redeye announced

2021 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Redeye announced

In the second announcement from Dodge, the new Charger has broken cover. After the announcement of the 2021 Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat yesterday, the automaker has finally announced the arrival of the 2021 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Redeye.

The 2021 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Redeye is evidence of the automaker’s move from standard cars to performance models. Like the Durango is the world’s most powerful SUV, this Charger is the world’s most powerful sedan. For now anyway.

“We want to distill the Dodge brand to (focus only on) our core performance vehicles,” said Tim Kuniskis, head of passenger vehicles for FCA North America, said during a media backgrounder. The three products that will remain in the Dodge line-up, he added, “can go from cool to crazy with just a single check of the order box.”

The 2021 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Redeye looks a lot like the current charger, only beefier. The new model gets a new hood with cold air intake, the widebody kit, larger wheels and tires, new rear lights and a cool and surprisingly modest trunk spoiler at the back.

The widebody kit adds 3.5 inches of width that allow wider 305/35ZR-20 Pirelli all-season tires. Behind those very nice wheels is a set of big Brembo brakes to bring all that power to a standstill as quickly and as safely as possible.

Under the hood, the 2021 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Redeye uses the awesome 6.2-litre supercharged V8 engine. This version has a larger 2.7-litre supercharger with higher boost, a pair of fuel pumps instead of just one, reinforced pistons and connecting rods, updated valvetrain, upgraded oil cooler and the Dodge Power Chiller system with Race Cooldown feature from the Demon.

All this combines to give the 2021 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Redeye a peak output of 797 hp and 707 lb-ft of torque delivered to the rear wheels. That gives it a top speed of 203 mph and a 10.6 second quarter mile.

The 2021 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Redeye is not for the faint of heart. It’s a muscle car to beat all muscle cars. It’s also a four door family sedan capable of doing the school run if you want to petrify the kids.

It’s a superb design and definitely looks the part. For all those performance fans out there who want to own a daily driver that can outperform many more exotic cars, there are few other models that give as much bang for the buck.

Exactly how many bucks is still to be announced. Pricing and release is set for fall 2020 so we have a little while to wait before we get to see the 2021 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Redeye in the flesh.
