2020 Ram Heavy Duty

2020 Ram Heavy Duty

Now the Los Angeles Auto Show is over, we have to go back to spy shots to see what’s on the horizon. At least until Detroit next year anyway. One such spy shot taken last week was of the upcoming 2020 Ram Heavy Duty. The heavier brother to the best selling Ram 1500, this truck is for work and manages to make it look so easy.

Spied over at FCA’s testing ground at Auburn Hills in the US and outed by Left Lane News, we get to see a selection of 2020 Ram Heavy Duty in all their glory. LLN carries a selection of images of the different trucks driving around without camouflage or a care in the world. Photographers caught the Limited, Limited MegaCab, Laramie Longhorn and Big Horn out on the road.

2020 Ram Heavy Duty design
The 2020 Ram Heavy Duty looks to have been updated in a similar manner to the 1500. The grille and chrome surround is the biggest clue to the changes. There is a gaping hole in the centre with the RAM badging more prominent than the current model. This moves in a different direction than the current models and makes double sure you know what’s sitting behind you on the road.

Other changes include new headlights with a more chiselled appearance, a mix of chrome and black trim depending on the model, a new truck bed, new rear lights, new tailgate and new aluminium panels. We know Ram are planning to move to aluminium for this range of trucks and we think it will include the hood and doors but nothing has been confirmed yet as far as I know.

The interior is also getting a makeover. According to sources, the entirety of the interior will be new. With new design, new centre stack, new materials, new seats and trim. As Ram trucks are known for their cabins, this will be an interesting evolution and one we will be paying close attention to.

Under the hood
News on engines is still in the realms of speculation right now. We do expect similar engines to power these trucks with the V6 and V8 options remaining largely the same. We expect the excellent Cummins diesel to continue too.

The 2020 Ram Heavy Duty will likely also include the current transmissions and suspension setup with the Articulink front suspension and air suspension options. Carrying and towing capacities will likely remain the same or increase depending on weight saving elsewhere.

The 2020 Ram Heavy Duty is expected to appear at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit in January 2019 so we don’t have long to wait until we learn more.
