2020 Mazda3 at LA

2020 Mazda3 at LA

The 2020 Mazda3 is a cool small car that is a regular on our streets around Ontario. It seems to sit comfortably in its own skin and compete well with other cars on the road. It may be in the compact class but this little Mazda is anything but!

The best news is that the 2020 Mazda3 resembles that awesome concept we got to see earlier in the year, the Kai. That went down exceptionally well with those who saw it. It was fun, sporty, cutting edge and had all the right curves in all the right places. While the production car does differ a little, it still has the character we were looking for.

2020 Mazda3
The design of the 2020 Mazda3 is very good indeed. It balances that Kai concept with the sensibility and practicality of a compact in the real world. The design is sporty looking and has a low front, narrow Mazda grille, curved hood and aggressive styling without alienating any potential buyers.

A very steeply raked windshield curved round a very sloped roof onto a tidy hatch at the rear. Modest panel detailing elsewhere allows the shape to do the talking and is says all the right things!

On the inside, it looks like materials quality has been improved once more with some nice soft touch materials, better feeling plastics and high standards of fit throughout. There is still room for four adults and cargo in back too, which is a strong point of this model.

Under the hood
Mazda haven’t yet released engine specifications for the 2020 Mazda3. We think there will be the same 1.5-litre, 2.0-litre and 2.5-litre engines on offer and one or more will definitely be the SkyActiv-X engine we have heard so much about. Other regions may get a diesel but I doubt that will make it to Canada. There was talk about a hybrid too but I have heard nothing more about that.

The 2020 Mazda3 will be front wheel drive with AWD as an option. It will use a six speed manual as standard with the option for a six speed automatic.

The current model still looks modern and up to date but this new design adds a little something extra. With similar trims, technology and pricing as the current version, the new model should see just as well, if not better. Especially with the AWD option for our climate.
