2020 Mazda CX-30 at Tokyo

The 2020 Mazda CX-30 has just been shown at the Tokyo Auto Salon with a new appearance package. It has taken an already good looking crossover and made it even more attractive. All while keeping the Mazda characteristics we know and love in place.

The 2020 Mazda CX-30 is a relatively new vehicle so didn’t need many upgrades. This body kit is a nice addition and goes a long way to prove that the words ‘body kit’ don’t have to mean huge pieces of plastic bolted into a frankenvehicle to make it a laughing stock. Mazda’s body kit is actually very nice to look at.

It is comprised of new side skirts, new front splitter, new rear spoiler, rear diffuser, wheels and side mirrors. The size has been kept minimal with enough to make it worthwhile but not too much that it looks silly. There is a neat chrome accent that adds to its style. I’m not normally a fan of brightwork on a car but this looks pretty cool.

The body kit is Japan only right now but Mazda have hinted that it will be coming to North America this year.

2020 Mazda CX-30

The 2020 Mazda CX-30 has been almost universally applauded. It’s a fantastic evolution of the crossover type that proves you don’t have to compromise on comfort and features just because you don’t want a full size SUV. In a market becoming flooded with generic shapes and sizes, the CX-30 manages to stand out without even trying.

The design is superb, using everything Mazda knows about styling and compressing it into a crossover. The CX-30 uses the same platform as the Mazda3 so you know it’s going to be good. Add those great looks, excellent balance and envious interior space and you have the ingredients for a great family car.

Whatever the ins and outs of Mazda’s Kodo design language, there is no avoiding the fact that it works.

Inside, the famed Mazda build quality is obvious. Seats are comfortable, there are lots of soft touch materials, finishing is of an excellent standard and there is plenty of technology to get to grips with. It’s a lovely place to spend time and quickly makes you think you’re inside a vehicle that costs twice as much.

Under the hood is a 2.5-litre four cylinder that produces 186 hp. It uses a six speed automatic transmission to send power to the front wheels. The steering has been well tuned and offers the same accuracy and feedback of other Mazda models. It’s an easy car to drive that can also be fun.

With lots of features and options, decent gas mileage and those fabulous looks, the 2020 Mazda CX-30 is a winner. It looks and drives well, offers an upscale experience without the upscale prices and delivers something just a little different than the usual vanilla crossover.
