2020 Lincoln Navigator

2020 Lincoln Navigator

I got to see a 2020 Lincoln Navigator up close this week and I must say I was impressed. I’m not an SUV guy but I must say, had I spent any longer with the big Lincoln and I may have been converted!

The 2020 Lincoln Navigator has a real presence. It’s a big vehicle but is packed full of luxury and technology. It’s a comfortable place to spend time. Comfortable and reassuring. Sitting in the driving seat, you feel as though you could drive anywhere, at any time and nothing could stop you.

Reserve 4x4

The model I saw was a 2020 Lincoln Navigator Reserve 4x4. Not the top Black Label trim but that hardly mattered. Even a middle trim Lincoln packs more luxury punch than most other top trims from competing automakers!

The SUV is big and bold and unapologetically American. The front end has real presence with the big grille, long curved hood, big lights with LED surrounds and impressive width. The profile runs straight but with panel detailing in the lower sill and upper door. There is a slight slope to the roof but otherwise, it’s a solid-looking vehicle.

The interior is cavernous. There is no other word for it. There is a ton of leg and head space in every row with the front seats being particularly luxurious. The leather is soft, controls all reassuringly solid, the instruments clear and customizable and trim faultless as far as the eye can see.

The driving seat is almost infinitely adjustable and is heated and cooled, second row seats have the option of being captain’s chairs while even the rear row was more comfortable than most vehicles.

Under the hood

Under that huge hood is a twin turbocharged 3.5-litre V6 engine that makes 450 hp and 510 lb-ft of torque. It uses a 10 speed automatic transmission to send power to the rear or all wheels. In this case, Reserve 4x4 means all wheels.

It isn’t a big engine but develops more than enough power to propel this big SUV down the road at a decent clip without you hearing a thing in the cabin.

The 2020 Lincoln Navigator has yet to be safety tested but the 2019 model was awarded five stars by the US NHTSA. It is unlikely in the that this model would do any worse. Especially when you get blind-spot monitors, adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking and active lane control as standard. You also have the option of  surround-view camera system, heads-up display, automatic high-beam headlights and active parking assist.

The drive is as you would expect. Smooth, effortless and as if nothing could stop it. While traffic did manage to stop it, if you’re going to be sitting in city traffic, you may as well do it surrounded by luxury like this!

I like the 2020 Lincoln Navigator. I think it has all the ingredients you need to deliver a composed ride with a lot of luxury thrown in. Visit Northway Ford Lincoln, 388 King George Road Brantford ON N3S 3N2 to see it for yourself!
