2020 Lincoln Corsair awarded Top Safety Pick

2020 Lincoln Corsair awarded Top Safety Pick

The 2020 Lincoln Corsair has just been awarded Top Safety Pick by the U.S. Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. After completing the tests alongside its Ford sibling the 2020 Escape, both vehicles performed excellently, being awarded the second highest award.

The 2020 Lincoln Corsair and Escape would have qualified for the Top Safety Pick Plus but the headlights were not up to the much tougher standards demanded of the Plus. The model that was rated was the 2020 Lincoln Corsair with optional curve-adaptive LED headlights. Other models do not qualify for Top Safety Pick.

Otherwise, the 2020 Lincoln Corsair was rated as ‘Good’ across all tests except automatic emergency braking and optional safety tech where it scored ’Superior’.

2020 Lincoln Corsair

The 2020 Lincoln Corsair is in a tough position. It’s a compact crossover in a market full of compact crossovers. It is currently one of the most competitive segments in the entire car market and there are dozens of good quality competitors at all price points. Fortunately, the design and quality of the Corsair should see it survive in this market.

The 2020 Lincoln Corsair has an excellent design. It is similar to the rest of the Lincoln family but also different enough to stand on its own. The rear profile has the air of the Range Rover about it while the front is more Volvo XC60. Yet at the same time, it is purely Lincoln.

Based on the Ford Escape platform, the size and shape are large enough to transport the family while also being easy to drive around town. A slightly curved roof with rooftip spoiler are a signature of the Corsair and make it stand out from that crowd.

Inside, the cabin is more simple than larger SUVs from Lincoln but still feature quality materials, nice design and lots of technology. It is both elegant in its simplicity yet also fully featured. Visibility is good all round, seats are comfortable and supportive and the controls are all within easy reach. It’s a nice place to spend time.

There are two engines to choose from, a 2.0-litre four cylinder that generates 250 hp and 280 lb-ft of torque or a turbocharged 2.3-litre that generates 295 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque. Both use an eight speed automatic to send power to the front or all wheels. The drivetrain is definitely tuned for smoothness as you would expect but doesn’t leave you wanting if you’re in a hurry either.

The 2020 Lincoln Corsair is a solid reinvention for the brand and does a lot of good work to modernize Lincoln and deliver a car people will actually want to drive and be seen driving. Well worth considering if you want a crossover with a little more going on than usual.
