2020 Lincoln Aviator at LA

640 × 421
Among the many cars showing at the LA Auto Show, the 2020 Lincoln Aviator really stood out for me. The aviation design cues, rounded yet robust design and sheer levels of comfort inside the big Lincoln were fully expected but quite surprising once you get up close.

2020 Lincoln Aviator
The 2020 Lincoln Aviator is an all-new product. It uses a new platform that will support the upcoming Ford Explorer but the Aviator gets to it first. It’s a good size and looks solidly built without looking like a truck. It’s obvious a lot of work went into this design and it looks very good for it.

The design is rounded and soft yet strong at the same time. It doesn’t say ‘look at me’ like some SUV designs but still retains that subtle robustness that gives you confidence. The front grille is imposing but the curved hood and swept lights take away some of that. Simple panel designs with a flourish along the waistline also says more with less.

Inside, you get the comfort and luxury you would expect from a Lincoln and so much more. With lots of leather, sumptuous trim and superb stitching across the entire cabin, it is very easy to feel at home in there. Solid chrome switches and dials, a very clear touchscreen and intuitive controls make this a very easy car to drive.

Being a passenger isn’t bad either. There is a lot of leg and head room in the Aviator. There are also lots of storage and the front seats have multiple adjustment options.

Under the hood
Under the hood of the 2020 Lincoln Aviator is a twin-turbo V6 engine that will deliver around 400 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque. It will used Ford’s awesome 10 speed automatic transmission. There is rumoured to be an electric variant on the way that will produce the equivalent of 450 hp and 600 lb-ft of torque but we don’t know much about that yet.

With RWD or AWD, the Aviator will be ideal for our climate. The long chassis and composed self-levelling suspension will make handling rough roads a breeze.

The new Lincoln ‘Phone as a Key’ feature could go down well too. It’s an app that loads onto your smartphone that can replace the car keys should you wish. The app is PIN protected and there is a further PIN option on the car should anything happen to your phone. It’s a neat idea that will save us having to carry at least one set of keys with us.

I like the look and feel of the 2020 Lincoln Aviator. Were I in the market for a large and/or luxury SUV, this would definitely be on my list. If you feel the same way, visit Northway Ford Lincoln, 388 King George Road Brantford ON N3S 3N2 to learn more about the new Aviator.
